    Kind dignified memory care, thriving

I placed my grandpa here - memory care done right. Kind, involved staff welcomed him, kept me clearly informed, and preserved his dignity in clean, safe rooms. He thrived with person-centered care: good meals, music and reminiscence therapy, a therapy dog, engaging activities, strong personal relationships, and compassionate hospice when needed.

    About Friendly Horizons

Friendly Horizons sits at 645 1st Ave SW in Sioux Center, Iowa, as a retirement community designed with a home-like feel, and you'll notice right away that the place stays clean and safe, and residents get treated with respect and dignity as if they're family, which you can tell comes from it being family-owned and operated with staff who care about each person. You'll find the inside is easy to walk around, which helps residents feel comfortable, and there's a dining room with all-day dining options, so folks eat when they're hungry, and meals can be prepared for special diets, including allergies and diabetes, with housekeeping, laundry, and even dry cleaning handled for everyone living there. Friendly Horizons has emergency alert systems, 24-hour staff supervision, and medication management, so safety and care are always present, and they help people with daily activities like bathing, dressing, and moving from place to place - adjusting how much help each person needs because some residents want only a bit of support while others may need around-the-clock care or even hospice help.

For those needing memory care, especially with Alzheimer's or dementia, there's a smaller memory care house built to feel homey and easy to navigate, with specialized staff dedicated to knowing each resident as a person first, which means residents get care that matches where they are in their memory care journey, and you'll notice activities meant to keep everyone engaged, like sharing stories about former jobs, interacting with therapy dogs, listening to music from the past, and tailored brain-stimulating programs, with secure outdoor spaces for walking and gardens to enjoy. People who live at Friendly Horizons take part in group activities, social times, and educational or entertaining events, so nobody feels left out or bored, and the staff stays involved, offering kindness, respect, and clear communication with residents and their families. There's a focus on providing support in a smaller group setting, which allows for more personal attention, and when memory care is needed, the staff is trained to help with special needs and keep everyone safe and comfortable.

Living spaces at Friendly Horizons vary, some with private rooms or bedrooms, and some with kitchenettes, so people can still feel a sense of privacy or independence, while still having help when needed. They base every care plan on what each resident actually needs and wants, so it never feels like a one-size-fits-all home, and everyone from caregivers to kitchen staff tries to make daily life as normal as possible, with the idea that people should enjoy their days and families should worry less about care and more about spending time together. Friendly Horizons welcomes new residents into a caring community where the goal is always to provide the right amount of help, whether for those who are still quite independent or those who need a lot of support, especially with cognitive issues, chronic illness, or end-of-life care. Residents and families can also get expert help with long-term care planning and insurance questions, and there's a clear focus on making sure both physical and emotional needs are met in a setting that feels just like a comfortable family home.
