    Caring staff, solid but dated

I moved my loved one here and was impressed by the loving, helpful staff who made setup easy and provide quality daily care. The older building is well-maintained with decent room selection, though some rooms feel outdated - my relative still loved it. Management is caring; in a short stay it's hard to fully judge long-term care, but overall solid with room for improvement.

About Guest Home Estates at Fort Scott

Guest Home Estates at Fort Scott is a retirement home with two locations, including one at 737 Heylman St, Fort Scott, KS 66701, and is licensed by the state of Kansas for up to 42 residents, so you won't ever see crowds but you will find a welcoming, home-like place that aims to help folks stay comfortable as they age, and Cathy Nalley is the administrator here which is good to know if you ever need help. This community serves active seniors looking for independent living, with options for those 55 or 62 and older who want to do most things for themselves, but there's also extra support available if someone needs help with daily tasks-stuff like getting dressed, bathing, or moving around, and there's always 24-hour supervision and a comprehensive call system so people can feel safe since you never know when you might need something in the middle of the night. You get housekeeping, laundry services or easy access to laundry, and chef-prepared meals-usually one or two each day, served restaurant-style in the dining room, and there's care for dietary needs, so if someone has diabetes or allergies or high blood pressure, the kitchen handles that. They offer companion care, hospice care, respite care, and memory care for people dealing with Alzheimer's or dementia, though that memory care part tends to cost more, about three times the usual healthcare price for seniors, which can be expensive, but sometimes needed.

There are several room choices, including private and shared bedrooms furnished for comfort, and each has telephones and emergency alert guides installed for quick help, plus folks who need help with medications, insulin, or grooming have staff around to support them with all of that. The place makes life easier by offering services like transportation to the doctor, shopping, and even church, so you don't have to worry about travel on your own, and there's a nice focus on keeping people active with planned events, movie nights, group games, music and animal therapy, art programs, fitness activities, and outside relaxation in the yard or garden since people still want to enjoy life even when they need a little more help than before. Amenities include reading rooms, a jacuzzi, steam room, fitness area, hairdresser or salon, walking paths, community center, game rooms, and handy safety features like medication dispensers, walk-in tubs, and a senior-friendly security system, plus technology tools like senior cell phones, special internet plans for older adults, and hearing aids.

The staff speak English and help with individualized care, always focusing on residents' need for comfort, independence, and dignity, and community-sponsored and resident-run activities add a personal touch so people can stay social if that's important to them, and the whole move-in process comes with help to make changing homes a little less stressful. Payment starts at $3,000 a month, but that varies by care needs and room choices, and you can use private pay, long-term care insurance, or Veterans Aid and Attendance, so families have some flexibility. Overall, Guest Home Estates at Fort Scott tries to give older adults a chance to age in place with different kinds of help available as needs change, without making anybody feel out of place or left behind, and all the special names and features they use for their services, like Medical Guardian and ADT Medical Alert systems, are there so seniors feel a bit safer and more comfortable day to day.
