    Beautiful facility but inconsistent care

I chose this assisted living for my relative and appreciate the beautiful, clean facility and genuinely kind, professional staff - welcoming greeters, music, and many competent nurses who care deeply. That said, care can be inconsistent: a night nurse once ignored doctor's orders leaving my relative in pain, meals were missed, and family had to step in - efficiency and adherence to instructions need improvement.

    About Locust Grove Village

Locust Grove Village sits in La Crosse, KS, nestled in a quiet country area, and has a focus on senior living with care for a variety of needs, so you'll find everything from retirement apartments to skilled nursing all on one campus, and they've even got a newly completed assisted living center with fourteen spacious apartments for those who want to live independently but still need some help. The campus is open all day and all night, every day of the week, and about fifty staff members handle nursing, dietary needs, therapy, cleaning, social services, and accounting. Medicare-certified and licensed with the State of Kansas, the health care options cover assisted living, skilled nursing, long-term care, and memory care, plus options for hospice, so folks can stay comfortable even if they have serious needs. Adult day services are available, too, along with Kids Corner Day Care Center, which is a special feature for children, and there's also a public welfare center, job help, and health services aimed at making life better for everyone living there.

The place has many different spaces where people can gather for visits, life enrichment, or meals, with dining rooms full of natural light and meals made to be both good-looking and nourishing to help people socialize at the table, and when folks want to sit and chat there's a sitting room showing off framed photos of residents and simple, homey decor to invite conversation. The property kind of forms a full circle of services-a full continuing care retirement community-so residents can move in and get the help they need as things change, whether that means non-medical home care, rehabilitation, memory care, or just living on their own in a retirement apartment that's safe and secure. There's an administrative center at the east end with a covered drop-off for visitors, and the staff runs on a not-for-profit system with a Board of Directors made of volunteers, so the focus stays on caring for people instead of making money. Special services here also stretch to include adult day programs, respite care for caregivers who need a break, even transportation and support for folks with disabilities, all of which sit alongside the regular health, assisted, and retirement living options, and with on-site amenities and unique names for some programs and spaces, the facility feels personal and built for the people who use it. Locust Grove Village has even caught some awards for its community setting, which feels peaceful and welcoming for both residents and visitors.
