    Pulled grandmother from neglectful care

I pulled my grandmother out at great expense after her 24-hour care needs were ignored-staff were belligerent and repeatedly returned her with urine- and excrement-soaked sheets. Care was grossly inadequate; I'm reporting the facility to oversight and believe it should be investigated/closed.

    About Comfortcare Homes of Pittsburg

Comfortcare Homes of Pittsburg, also called Colleens Cottage, is a small senior living community at 704 Lakeview Drive in Pittsburg, Kansas, over in Crawford County, and there's another building called Comfortcare Homes Millies Place at 803 Lakeview Drive, both meant for seniors who need help with daily activities or memory care, and each place has its own unique names for programs and rooms, with Colleens Cottage holding up to 12 residents and Millies Place for up to 8. Folks living here get assistance with things like bathing, dressing, and getting around, and there's always someone on staff 24 hours, so residents aren't left alone if they need something, which can be a comfort as people get older. Residents can have a private room, a semi-private setup, or even a small studio, all designed to be easy to get around, and each has an emergency alert system in case help is needed quickly. Meals are made daily by a chef, and the staff can help with special diets-like if someone has diabetes or allergies-and an on-site dietitian makes sure menus are easy to read and matches what seniors need. There's medication management, so no one has to worry about missing a pill, and licensed nurses are on call if health needs come up, and folks get help with transfers and non-ambulatory care, which matters a lot for those who might have trouble walking.

The homes aren't set up like big institutions but feel more like a house where people can relax and have some quiet, or join in group activities if they want, including movie nights, fitness sessions, or cultural events that bring the community together. It helps when people get to know the staff, who are trained in care for folks with dementia, Alzheimer's, stroke history, or Parkinson's disease, and they've been focusing on this kind of care since 1993, always trying new ways to lower stress for residents, especially those with memory troubles. There are walking paths outside, a garden for fresh air, and transportation is arranged to get to appointments or around town, and parking is available for visitors. Inside, there's a dining room for shared meals, common areas for activities or conversations, and services like housekeeping, laundry, and even move-in coordination if someone needs help getting settled.

The homes keep a low number of residents, which means the staff can really focus on each person, tailoring care plans for what each resident needs, whether that's help dressing for the day or joining in on a favorite hobby. Prices start at about $4,017 per month, with the cost depending on the room type and care level, and residents get amenities designed for comfort and independence, while families get peace of mind knowing there's always someone nearby. The location is close to hospitals, clinics, and shops for convenience, so seniors don't have to go far for essentials. Comfortcare Homes of Pittsburg is licensed under B019004 and offers respite stays for people who need help for a shorter time, while trying to keep a warm, friendly, and simple approach where residents can feel at home and keep their dignity.
