    Warm home-like care, compassionate staff

I chose this facility and am very pleased - it's warm and home-like, the director is wonderful, caregivers are skilled and compassionate, and the pricing was competitive. Staff have been grieving recently, but they still show genuine care for the residents.

    About Kenwood Plaza

Kenwood Plaza sits in St. John, Kansas, and connects with Sunshine Meadows Retirement and Mennonite Friendship Communities, so what you see is a spread-out place with several living options for seniors, whether someone wants to live mostly on their own or needs more daily care. Folks can pick from independent living in cozy, carpeted apartments, skilled nursing services in private rooms, or stay in one of the care homes called Kenwood Plaza Residential Care, which have staff around all the time and helpers like nurses and aides there both day and night, which is handy if bathing or getting dressed gets tough. There's a choice for people who need help with memory difficulties like Alzheimer's, and the community keeps them safe with secure areas, activities, and therapies meant to ease confusion and wandering; respite care's also available if someone's caregiver at home needs a break.

The place has a newly built addition for assisted living along with freshly remodeled common spaces since 2014, and every apartment or living space comes with a phone, air conditioning, room for personal things, and a 24-hour emergency call system, which can make families feel a bit more at ease. Meals get prepared on-site by a kitchen staff who plan for allergies and diets like diabetes, so no one's left out at the dining room, where folks can eat all day, and they'll even fix up guest meals if visitors come. Housekeeping, laundry, and even dry cleaning get handled by staff, and living areas and grounds are kept tidy, with paved paths, a storm shelter, and snow and trash removal, plus regular repairs and maintenance on buildings and equipment.

Kenwood Plaza offers transportation and parking, will take folks to medical appointments, organize group shopping trips, and even host outings and excursions, which keeps life from getting dull, and around the common areas, you'll find a barber and salon, an art room, parlors, a chapel, and an activity room, so there's always something happening; you might catch a movie night or join a tournament, and you'll meet people from the local schools and businesses who drop by. Residents can join in running activities, garden outside, or walk the paths for a bit of fresh air. Social and well-being programs come standard, with exercise classes, arts and crafts, and regular health checks, and there's always someone checking in if needed.

The place carries a state license for assisted living under license #N093004, has a solid record on resident satisfaction, and keeps a staff on-site who people generally describe as friendly and helpful and often go beyond the basics, like helping with clerical work, move-in help, and constant checks for safety. Services stretch from rehab like physical, speech, and occupational therapy, to IV therapies, hospice, and home care, so seniors can get support for both daily needs and health changes that might come up over the years. Kenwood Plaza doesn't just do the minimum and instead tries to tailor care plans so each person stays as independent as possible, whether someone only needs a little nudge or much more support every day, which seems to make life comfortable and about as lively as folks want.
