    Warm staff but medication concerns

My mother loved Oakley Place - the staff were warm, compassionate, welcoming, and affordable, and they were generally responsive to concerns. That said, dining was often starchy and low on fruits/veggies, and I encountered serious med-management problems (wrong/discontinued meds, liquid-diet handling) plus occasional inexperienced staff and removal of assistive devices that reduced independence. Overall a good fit for us, but be cautious about medication and dining quality.

    About Oakley Place of Topeka

Oakley Place of Topeka is a small senior living community in Topeka, Kansas, where you'll find a mix of services including memory care, assisted living, nursing care, and independent living, and while there's in-home care options too, most people appreciate the home-like setting, which feels more like a house than a hospital, with family-style bedrooms, spacious kitchens, and cozy sitting rooms where residents bring their own belongings for comfort. The homes have a maximum of 12 residents each, so you get a close-knit environment, and you'll see a staff-to-resident ratio of about 4 to 1 during the day, which helps provide attention and support. Folks with dementia or Alzheimer's live in a safe, secure part of the facility with rooms and common areas designed to help reduce confusion and prevent wandering. The staff get special training to work with people who have memory issues, reduced mobility, or need help with daily activities like bathing, dressing, or managing medicines, and care adjusts as needs change, so residents can stay in the same familiar place as they age. There are options for private rooms, and some rooms are wheelchair accessible with features like roll-in showers. Residents can expect fresh, home-cooked meals that fit their dietary needs, and staff handle medication, diabetes care, high-acuity care, and incontinence. There's physical therapy, social work services, and activities tailored to each person's interests and abilities, whether it's board games, reading, or spending time outside in the backyard, garden, or on the deck. Families are encouraged to visit and stay involved, and there's a "home away from home" feeling, which a lot of people appreciate, and the atmosphere is friendly and calm. Residents can use parking or get transportation for errands at extra cost. Oakley Place has a 3.5-star "Very Good" rating according to verified reviews from SeniorAdvisor.com, and prices for different room types are published. The community accepts private pay and long-term care insurance. The staff focus on comfort, safety, and the individual needs of every resident, and the whole place seems to run on a sense of providing solid, straightforward care rather than anything fancy.
