    Kind staff, alarming systemic neglect

I have mixed feelings. The CNAs, therapists and many staff were kind, caring and competent - rooms are large, some areas very clean, activities and rehab can be excellent, and Medicaid residents seemed well supported. But I also witnessed alarming neglect in nursing/long-term care: poor hygiene (clothes, diapers, socks/shoes left unchanged for days), missed meds and treatments, delayed emergency response, unresponsive management, reports of abuse/bed bugs/theft, and an old, poorly maintained building with limited food and activities. Staff often do their best, but systemic staffing, management, and safety problems left me unwilling to trust this place for long-term nursing care; I'd only consider it cautiously for short rehab or assisted living after thorough checks.

    About LakePoint Wichita

LakePoint Wichita sits on a big, quiet, fourteen-acre campus in Wichita, Kansas, where residents can walk along sidewalks around the property, watch the well-kept gardens and fountains, and spend time in covered outdoor terraces by every apartment, with all outside apartments offering a view and easy access to the lawns, which makes the campus feel open and peaceful, and it's nice because you don't have to go far to get anywhere, thanks to the covered walkways leading from each apartment to dining and recreation areas. The facility covers almost all types of senior care, with separate areas for independent living-where folks who're healthy and active can enjoy life with less hassle-assisted living for those who might need help with things like bathing or medicine, and more specialized memory care under the Carriage House Senior Living section for people with memory loss, as well as skilled nursing care, long-term care, and rehabilitation with therapies like physical, speech, and occupational therapy, which are all offered by a dedicated group of healthcare professionals who're onsite and awake twenty-four hours a day to handle emergencies or help with everyday needs like moving from bed to chair or checking blood sugar for diabetics.

The building has lots of space to gather, with indoor common areas where residents can play bingo, do crafts, or just sit and talk, and there are special rooms reserved for celebrations, including a monthly birthday party for everyone born that month, along with regular events like movie nights with popcorn, sing-alongs, church hymns, Bible studies, country western band dances, and social craft hours. They'll also take groups out for picnics, restaurant meals, hotdog roasts, fishing in the country, and even outings like trips to the circus, and field trips are part of the routine, making the calendar feel full and lively, which gives everyone something to look forward to, and it's really good because people who want more connection have ways to find it, inside and outside.

Amenities help with comfort and well-being, including a beauty salon and barbershop, pleasant dining areas, recreational spaces, and pet-friendly policies so cats and dogs can live with their owners. The place provides all kinds of healthcare services, such as diabetic care, incontinence support, monitoring for people who can't walk without help, staffing for special needs, hospice and pain management, plus audiology and podiatry right at the facility, and they'll serve meals with attention to dietary and religious preferences. There's a focus on supporting recovery for people coming out of a hospital stay, with options for respite care, rehabilitation, and long-term housing, and aides also offer companionship and help to seniors choosing to age in place at home.

LakePoint Wichita offers deluxe studios and one-bedroom semi-private rooms, with insurance resources, a contact and FAQs section, and a range of care level fees, making it clear about costs upfront whether someone's looking at independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled rehabilitation, or long-term care, and all these services are managed as part of LakePoint Nursing & Rehab Center and the larger Wichita Health Services. Transportation and parking make it easy for those who want to get around, including complimentary rides for medical visits or special activities offsite, and the whole environment is built around beauty, safety, and convenience, with staff always ready to help, whether someone needs daily care or just wants to share a meal and a conversation in a welcoming, relaxed setting.
