    Attentive staff but declining food

I placed my mom here and the staff have been very attentive - she's happy (my dad was happy too). Early on the home-cooked meals and muffins were excellent, but food quality declined over time (less meat, no coffee, more low-quality canned goods) and meals were often skipped. There are no activities beyond TV, and we've felt pressure to pay early amid signs the owner may be in financial trouble, so we may need to move. Bathroom remodeling was ongoing but the transition was easy thanks to helpful staff.

    About Sunflower Meadows Care Homes

Sunflower Meadows Care Homes sits in Wichita, Kansas, and folks know it for providing assisted living, memory care, and nursing home services in a home-like setting, offering just 8 assisted living units, so things feel smaller than a lot of the big places, which has its benefits and challenges. The staff helps with everything from medication management, dressing, bathing, and laundry, to grooming and getting around, and they're usually around to check on residents and answer calls. You'll see a good variety of room types such as private rooms, semi-private, studios, and one-bedrooms, and the rooms come with cable TV, wheelchair accessible showers, and sometimes kitchenettes, while housekeeping and laundry are included, keeping most of the living spaces tidy though sometimes improvements are ongoing. There's a big focus on residents who need higher levels of care, so folks with dementia, Parkinson's, diabetes, or incontinence can usually get the tailored help they need, and the care team works with families to make individual care plans, though some families feel the support isn't always enough. For meals, the kitchen team makes home-cooked food three times daily, planned by chefs so there's solid nutrition, and they try to keep up special menus for memory care or special diets like vegetarian or diabetic, but there have been times when meal portions and variety don't quite meet expectations as things have changed over the years.

Residents have access to both indoor and outdoor common areas, including walking paths, games rooms, a barber and beauty shop, as well as a library and private dining areas for guests, and the whole place runs on Wi-Fi, so connecting with family is possible, which helps a bit with feeling connected if someone can't get a ride. Transportation is available if folks schedule it and pay a fee, and parking is there for those who still drive, but this isn't a place with a big bustling calendar-on-site activities lean passive, like watching TV, with a few social or devotional activities mixed in, so folks looking for more active engagement might feel a bit limited. Families mention that the staff tries to make the move-in, the daily living, and the transitions as smooth as possible and keep the property safe with 24/7 security and emergency response, though small things like staff smoking out back can affect the atmosphere.

You get a micro-community style of living, which can make it feel supportive and personal, and Sunflower Meadows Care Homes is licensed under Kansas # B087099, which means they're regulated and have certain safety systems in place like sprinklers. They offer skilled nursing too, with an on-call RN, wound care, occupational therapy, and podiatry visits, and they take long-term care insurance, so that opens up some payment flexibility, and at an average cost of $4,500, it tries to serve families looking for different levels of care at a competitive rate. Newer residents and families often appreciate how attentive the staff is and how the managers help with getting settled, though, like anywhere, there are ups and downs depending on each person's needs and preferences.
