Summit Retirement Center, also called The Summit, sits in Alexandria, LA and takes care of people who need different kinds of help as they age, because some folks come for short stays after surgery, while others need longer-term care, and some have memory problems that need special attention, so folks can choose private or semi-private rooms, and there are also 1-bedroom options in single-story buildings that keep things easier for mobility. The facility offers assisted living, nursing home services, rehabilitation after illness or surgery, memory care for dementia or Alzheimer's, hospice care, and home care, really covering a wide range of health needs for people age 55 and up, and the building aims to feel homelike so residents feel comfortable whether staying short term or long term. Registered nurses stay on site all day and night, ready to give medicine, watch health situations, and provide help, while caregiving associates help people with daily tasks and get them to meals or activities, and there's always attention to medical needs, from wound and IV care to high-acuity health services and things like respiratory and physical therapy, especially since lots of people come to The Summit for post-surgery and rehabilitation after things like joint replacements, heart attacks, or strokes. The memory care unit stays locked for safety and tries to build a homey setting for folks with memory loss problems, and assisted living means daily support with dressing, grooming, and eating, with individualized care plans in place. There's always something going on with daily activities matched to what people can do and like to do, like community outings, music, exercise, cards, arts and crafts, puzzles, and in the activity room you'll find lots of programs to keep the mind and body moving, while the dining room serves prepared meals and there's regular social time, and they try hard to nurture the body, mind, and spirit to keep people as healthy and engaged as possible. The Summit gives people useful amenities for day-to-day life, like housekeeping, fitness center, salon/barber shop, cable TV, safety bars in the rooms and bathrooms, Wifi, washers and dryers, kitchens or kitchenettes, property maintenance, guest parking, and sprinklers for fire safety, while medical care includes podiatry, nurses, transportation to appointments, medication help, occupational therapy, dressing, and laundry. The staff tailor care plans to every resident, whether someone's there to recover after a hospital stay or they need ongoing support, and there are programs and features aimed at keeping residents safe, like enhanced barrier precautions, and they let families or folks interested take tours, see a brochure, or browse a photo gallery online. The Summit does its work as a health care community with long experience in caring for elders, aiming for a place of healing and comfort for people who need a supportive environment without making things feel like a hospital, because they focus on letting people feel at home, get stronger, and live with dignity as they age.

Excellent staff, alarming leadership failures
I have mixed feelings. Communication, atmosphere and therapy improved a lot - many nurses, CNAs and admissions staff (Lauren) were caring, activities were engaging, and my mother got stronger and seemed happy. But serious leadership and safety problems remain: mishandled funds, slow/poor responses, retaliation to complaints, CNAs hiding on phones, residents left soaked in urine, unsanitary conditions and missing items - issues that need investigation. In short: excellent frontline staff and rehab, but unacceptable management and safety failures; I'm grateful for the care my mother received and want her home as soon as possible.
