    About Capitol City Manor

Capitol City Manor is an assisted living center on State Street in Augusta, Maine, and has 29 beds in a medium-sized, two-story building that serves seniors who need independent living, assisted living, nursing home care, memory care, and continuing care retirement community services, and the place has a round-the-clock staff and a 24-hour call system which helps residents with bathing, dressing, and medication management, plus the rooms, dining areas, lounges, gardens, and a well-stocked library offer some home comforts, and there's a barber and salon, plus walking paths and a beautiful garden for residents to spend time in, which can be nice. Activities and social programs run every day, with field trips, shopping trips, arts and crafts, movies, religious services, council meetings, and seasonal parties to keep people busy, and the activity director runs programs to help folks stay as independent and social as possible, and pets are allowed so someone can bring their animal along, which is comforting for many. The center uses a team approach for nursing, rehab, medical care, and discharge planning to help residents recover, and Synertx, a well-known rehab company, provides physical and occupational therapy that includes one-on-one sessions and personal care plans, so people can work toward real goals, especially those in the short-term rehab program set up to help folks regain independence after a hospital stay. Care plans are made for each person after looking at their needs and goals, and staff includes nursing, medical, and medication administration people working with the resident's own physician, though the resident pays the cost of medical care, and there's scheduled transportation, snacks, dietary help, laundry, and housekeeping every day. Spaces are designed to help physical and emotional needs-there are nicely decorated private and shared studio units and cozy common areas that make it easier to feel at home, and the facility tries to create a comfortable environment with friendly staff dedicated to supporting the residents' health and happiness, but Capitol City Manor has also faced problems, with past violations for failing to keep enough staff for the number of residents, reports of staff physically and verbally abusing residents, incidents like grabbing shoulders, cursing, putting hands over mouths, or "manhandling" residents into wheelchairs, and the facility has had to make official corrective plans, undergo staff training about abuse and neglect, and is regulated by the state with required licensing and inspections. Capitol City Manor is owned by DLTC Healthcare and is part of their network, and it's currently planning to close on or before July 20, 2024, because the owners filed to do so voluntarily, so people looking for long-term options will need to keep that in mind. The community has a reported average rating of 8 out of 10, though there's only one public review with a 4.0 score, and supports a range of senior services while also having a history of issues that are openly documented, so it's good to be aware of both the available care and the issues when considering Capitol City Manor.
