    Warm compassionate staff, excellent care

My mother lived here for almost seven years and thrived. The staff are warm, compassionate, and attentive - excellent medical care, medication management and 24-hour nursing - and communication with families is clear. Apartments are clean, private, with new floors, kitchenette and accessible baths, and beautiful Kennebec River views; the grounds are meticulously kept. Dining is excellent (three-course meals) and activities/transportation are plentiful (exercise, crafts, painting, movie nights, outings to stores). It's a small, homey, well-maintained place, but market-rate units are limited and pricing can be high; I would still recommend it.

    About Plant Memorial Home

Plant Memorial Home sits on 28 acres along the Kennebec River in Bath, Maine, and has been around since 1917 when Thomas G. Plant built it to give seniors a safe and affordable place to live when they needed help with daily life, and over the years, it's kept a focus on dignity, comfort, and community. The home welcomes adults aged 55 and older and helps people who have worked hard all their lives but may not have anyone to care for them now, using staff like Certified Registered Medication Assistants, Certified Nursing Assistants under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, and personal aides for dressing, showers, medication, and daily needs all day and night. There are one-bedroom and efficiency apartments, each with a full kitchen, carpeted rooms, private baths, and lots of natural light with river views, and it's easy to get around if someone uses a walker or a wheelchair.

The place offers both assisted living and independent living, so some folks handle things fine by themselves while others get extra help, and they have specialized care for memory, diabetes, incontinence, and issues if someone can't walk well, and that means medication management, daily living support, help with meals, and visits from occupational and physical therapists. They make sure residents eat well with home-cooked meals, often made with local foods or things grown in their own kitchen garden, serving different diets like vegetarian, vegan, low sodium, low fat, and international dishes, and there's an option for room service if someone doesn't feel like eating in the dining area, as well as guest meals if family visits.

Activities fill up the days, including things like lectures, music groups, game nights, storytime, and exercise classes, plus outdoor patios and gardens for walking or relaxing, and sometimes there are trips to art shows, theater, or shopping in town, so no one's stuck just sitting in their room unless they want peace and quiet. The campus is right on the water and lets the public use the land for walking, and residents keep in touch with the wider community through volunteer work and support for groups like local Veterans or Scouts. There's a convenience store, communal spaces with TVs, arts and crafts, and places to gather for events, plus transportation so people who don't drive can get around and parking if guests stop by.

Weekly housekeeping and laundry help keep things neat, and maintenance is handled for apartments, so there's no worry about shoveling snow or mowing grass. There's cable, WiFi, and phone lines in every apartment, and on-site haircuts or barber services make it easier for folks who don't get out much. Friends and family are always welcome to join residents for meals or to visit in the public spaces, and the staff's been there a long time, so people know each other and it feels familiar. Plant Memorial Home is a nonprofit focused on keeping care affordable, making sure people find support whether they need full assistance or just want to live among friends without all the work of taking care of a house, and that's been the way they do things for over a hundred years.
