    Wonderful well-kept community with amenities

I live here and it's a wonderful, well-kept not-for-profit community with caring, responsive staff, clean apartments, and many amenities - lovely dining/bistro with gluten-free choices, cafe, movie theater, gym, garden/courtyard, library and regular activities. Meals are excellent, residents are social and safe, and maintenance and transportation are reliable. Drawbacks: they don't administer meds (reminders only), mealtime reminders can be inconsistent, parking/food value and family communication have room for improvement, and there's often a long waiting list. Overall I'm very pleased and would recommend it.

    About The Park Danforth

The Park Danforth is a not-for-profit senior living facility in Portland that's dedicated to folks aged 60 and older and stands as part of the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce network, and Denise Vachon is the dedicated contact person if there are questions. The Park Danforth has 216 apartments, including over 150 federally-assisted studio, one-bedroom, deluxe one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units, some with fully equipped kitchens and dining areas, and offers independent living for active seniors as well as assisted living and memory care for those needing more help. The community puts a strong focus on respecting each person's dignity, individuality, and privacy and always looks to support independence as people's needs change over time, so care includes help with daily activities like bathing, dressing, transfers, mobility, diabetic care, incontinence care, and non-ambulatory care, with staff providing medication management and 24-hour call systems.

Housing here feels safe, with wheelchair accessible features, emergency alert systems, furnished rooms, cable TV, telephone service, and options for housekeeping and laundry, and there's move-in coordination for folks who need it. Residents use the indoor media center, TV lounge, and community room, and often gather for community-sponsored events, movie nights, and resident-run activities, while the arts room and creative corner, the well-stocked library, and a serene garden courtyard encourage day-to-day engagement, and a rooftop deck offers a sunny spot outdoors. Meals are served in a dining room with all-day, restaurant-style service, with options for those with allergies or diabetes, plus there's a café or bistro, a bar or pub, and an on-site market that some residents help run. Social connections matter, so there's a range of Life Enrichment Programs, social activities, transportation, and volunteer opportunities, and both staff and residents shape the calendar with everything from wellness classes to movie showings and community gatherings-free parking and snow removal are included.

The common areas, beauty salon, barber shop, main street shops, community gathering rooms, and a wellness center round out the options for both daily living and special occasions, and the facility offers virtual tours so people can see the community and its courtyard before they visit. The Park Danforth cares about making sure every resident can keep up their quality of life-whether someone wants to be active, join friends for a meal, find a quiet space with a book, or get the care needed as time goes by. Memory care is available for seniors with Alzheimer's disease or dementia. The staff at The Park Danforth aim to stay flexible and help people respond to aging, and the residential programs promote wellness, socialization, and independence every step of the way.
