    Dirty tiny rooms, rude staff

I will not recommend this place. The tiny, cold rooms and shared bathrooms are dirty and often smell of urine and feces. Staff are mostly rude, overworked or untrained-medications were mishandled and residents seemed over-medicated-though Stacy and Sandy were exceptionally helpful. Housekeeping is nonexistent, the food is processed/old and high in sodium, and the whole place feels prison-like and profit-driven. Not somewhere I'd send someone I care about.

    About Berwick Estates

Berwick Estates sits at 79 Portland Street in South Berwick, Maine, and the building has gardens, walking paths, and a gated entrance for safety, and the rooms come with Wi-Fi and cable or satellite so residents can keep connected and watch TV in their own space, and many folks say the staff are wonderful, always friendly to residents and visitors alike, which really makes a difference for everyone coming in or out of the place. There's all-inclusive rent, and monthly care fees average about $150 a day for assisted living, and they take checks, credit cards, insurance, or even help with selling a house, so families have a few choices on how to pay for care and living. The facility gives different kinds of care-assisted living, independent living, memory care, and even nursing home services-and it helps people who might need just a little help getting dressed or bathed, as well as those who need occupational therapy, physical therapy, and medication reminders, and there's a staff available all day and night for emergencies and help with things like moving in or out of bed and managing diabetes.

Meals get made on-site and come three times a day with snacks, so residents don't have to cook, and guests can come for meals too, and the dining room works like a restaurant, including choices for people with allergies or special diets, even diabetes. Outside, gardens and paths are good for walks or just sitting and watching the seasons, and inside, there's a sunroom, computer space, quiet reading areas, and common rooms for folks to gather and talk or join in group activities. They run arts and crafts, music, educational programs, outings to local spots, and have fitness classes including Tai Chi, so there's plenty to do if someone wants to stay busy, and anyone needing spiritual support can join religious services. Veterans can get help with VA aid, and there's also help for people who need non-ambulatory care or incontinence support, and the "Connections" wellness program is supposed to keep social, physical, and emotional health in mind across all activities and care plans.

Berwick Estates promises help for those living with Alzheimer's or dementia, trying to make things less confusing and safer by keeping routines and preventing wandering, and caregivers are ready to help people manage daily tasks while letting them keep as much independence as possible. The facility also offers respite care if families need short-term help, as well as home care with trained aides for those still living at home who just need someone to stop by. The library, barber and salon, group exercise, and movie nights all give people spots to gather, relax, and take part in something if they want. The place checks health needs and diet restrictions, keeps healthcare staff near at hand, and pays attention to people's spiritual and emotional needs as well, and some programs are specifically run by residents, giving everyone a chance to feel involved.

Berwick Estates says it helps with moving decisions and finding the right living options, and families can expect a senior living advisor to guide them through, and they've got a first-hand review check process and a community info service, but the review score sits at 1.0 stars, which gives an honest look at some of the challenges or complaints people might have, and prices aren't posted publicly, so you need to ask for those details directly. Business hours start early at 5:00 AM and run through mid-evening, and tours are open for anyone who wants to come see the place before making a choice. The staff gets praise for acting with kindness and patience, and the community keeps things simple by focusing on day-to-day well-being, support, and comfort for seniors who want to stay active or who might need some extra help as they get older.
