    Highly recommend beautiful, well-run community

I moved in and couldn't be happier - beautiful, well-maintained grounds and buildings, a homelike atmosphere, and plenty of apartment options. Staff are warm, professional, and attentive; care (including on-site nursing), excellent dining, abundant activities, transportation, safety and clear communication make this a well-run, great-value community I wholeheartedly recommend.

    About North Oaks, a CCRC

North Oaks is a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) that sits on 8.5 acres on a hilltop in Pikesville, near Baltimore. The community's been in the area for over 30 years and keeps many traditions while also offering modern comforts. Residents can choose from apartments, bungalows, or condo-style units, including one and two-bedroom floor plans, and can enter through independent living with rental units available or under a Life Care contract that lets folks stay as their care needs change. There's a minimum age requirement to move in.

The campus is nondenominational but has a strong connection to the Jewish community, offering activities, visiting rabbis, Jewish services, and access to nearby places of worship. North Oaks offers a Life Plan model, so residents can move through independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing, all in one place, and the Autumn Ridge Health Center is the spot for higher care needs. The Nurse Navigator leads the Residential Health Services team and supports a smooth transition for each new resident.

The grounds are well-kept, with walking paths, gardening beds, greenhouses, outdoor gazebos, and a hilltop view. Inside there are fireplaces, game rooms, lounges, a wellness room, a fitness gym, a computer center, and a movie theater, plus common areas where residents gather for clubs, music, art classes, movie nights, cultural outings, lectures, and organized trips. There's a large focus on activities-music, games, volunteer chances, gardening, culinary events, day trips, happy hours, educational speakers, and fitness classes with personal trainers. Residents can use anytime dining or join in chef-prepared meals in the dining halls or wine bar, and the kitchens can handle many special diets like vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, no sodium, or diabetes-friendly meals. There's room service and a private dining room for family visits, too.

North Oaks is about making daily living easier, so there are staff-managed services like housekeeping, laundry, dry cleaning, salon services, a concierge, shuttle transportation, valet and regular parking, groundskeeping, and security gateways that help keep belongings and residents safe. The emergency alert system includes pendants and in-room devices, and staff offer medication management and help with dressing, bathing, transfers, and 24-hour supervision if needed. Wi-Fi, cable or satellite TV, climate control, and private bathrooms, along with pet-friendly rules, make it easy for residents to feel at home.

The community is close to bus and train lines, local hospitals, pharmacies, cafes, parks, theaters, and physicians, so residents can get out or have visitors come in. Partnerships with LifeBridge Health & Fitness bring access to aquatics and wellness classes, and the whole place focuses on health, safety, and a caring environment, with outreach to keep families and the larger community involved. Staff-from the Executive Director to the Director of Sales & Marketing-are known for being friendly and helpful, and people often mention how well the community's kept up and how the team communicates. The cost varies and isn't published, though the average reported price in Baltimore is about $2,200, and a cost calculator is available.

Residents talk about the warm feeling, the focus on wellness and connection, and the homelike atmosphere that respects privacy and belongings, with special attention to making life maintenance-free and comfortable for seniors. There's a photo gallery, tours, and special programs for community life, and North Oaks seems to make room for both tradition and new ways for people to age in place with support, choice, and dignity.
