    Warm homey respite; some limitations

I placed my mom in this small, one-floor, five-bed respite home and was impressed - very clean, fresh, warm and welcoming with friendly, knowledgeable, caring staff (one caregiver was a true blessing) and it felt like a home, not an institution. Downsides: limited activities, not enough bathrooms, occasional poor responsiveness, security at entrances needs tightening, room sharing can be an issue, and staff aren't trained for trach care. Overall I'd recommend it for short-term/non-complex needs but not for residents requiring specialized respiratory care.

    About Oak Street Retreat

Oak Street Retreat offers a wide range of services for seniors, with care levels that include assisted living, memory care, nursing home care, independent living, and residential care homes, all under one roof so residents can stay in one place even if their needs change, and their memory care area, also called Oak Street Retreat, sits in its own secured building with technology to keep residents safe, like exit-seeking alarms and bracelets that alert staff if someone tries to wander off. The place provides both private and semi-private rooms, which come furnished with beds, chairs, dressers, and side tables, and there are indoor and outdoor common areas, walking paths, a garden, big community dining rooms, and spaces for games, crafts, and movie nights. Meals are served three times daily with snacks and drinks available, and the kitchen team can adjust diets for allergies, diabetes, or other needs, and staff help with medication management, prescription refills, bathing, dressing, eating, grooming, and transfers, even for those who need a mechanical lift from bed to wheelchair. The community keeps a mix of activities, like educational programs, entertainment, physical and wellness events, and outings, with a structured schedule to support both the body and mind, and there are laundry and housekeeping services included, plus help with toiletry and hygiene supplies. There's 24/7 supervision from onsite caregivers, with the staff trained to support people with Alzheimer's or other types of dementia, including those who act out or have wandering behaviors, and the building's secured, with wandering alert bracelets and computer systems alerting staff if someone tries to enter an unsafe area, which helps keep every resident safe. Oak Street Retreat accepts residents who need high acuity care, bowel incontinence support, diabetes management with insulin, non-ambulatory care, and behavioral programs, and they're able to take care of people with more challenging behaviors. Transportation services include both resident parking and bus lines, plus complimentary transport for appointments or at-cost rides when needed. Amenities cover full bathtubs, different kinds of living arrangements including short-term and respite stays, on-site activities, devotional services held offsite, and a community designed to remain active, social, and supportive, with aging-in-place options, hospice care, and help available as residents' health needs change.
