    Nice facility but concerning staff

My mom has lived here for several years - the facility is clean, beautiful, and pleasant to visit, with caring nurses, memory/medical care available, and staff who helped after her heart attack. However I've also encountered a cold, untrustworthy side from some staff (including an unempathetic activities director), with worrying signs of poor care and possible financial exploitation, so I can't fully recommend it.

    About Record Street Home

Record Street Home at 115 Record St in Frederick, Maryland, has been caring for older adults since 1892, and folks around here know it as a life-care facility for people at least sixty-five years old, so right away you're getting a place with a lot of history and a real sense of community, not just a building where you stay. This home holds up to twenty-nine residents, and it's always had a family-like feeling, partly from things like their Big Sister program, where managers who are called Big Sisters form a friendly, supporting bond with each resident, called a Little Sister, rotating each month to make sure everyone gets attention. There's a Board of Trustees that looks after the financial side, and a Board of Managers takes care of the day-to-day home life.

You'll find both assisted living and memory care here, including for folks with dementia or Alzheimer's, with health care coverage by licensed nurses around the clock, diabetes care, incontinence care, and help for those who can't walk easily, so everyone's needs get seen to, and there's a home doctor making regular checks, and the staff will arrange specialist appointments or transport if that's necessary. They'll handle all the medical bills that aren't covered otherwise, including for prescriptions, which is one less thing for residents or families to worry about. Each person in the home gets a private room, with call bells in the rooms and bathrooms for safety, cable hook-ups, air conditioning, and a wash basin, with bathrooms nearby, and long-term care rooms sit close to the nurses' station.

Meals mean three sit-downs a day-breakfast at eight, dinner at noon, supper at five-all in a dining room where tables are grouped to encourage talking and friendships, and a registered dietitian checks meals for balance and flavor. Housekeeping and laundry get done for residents at no extra charge, and the staff takes special care with everyone's possessions. There's even hair care in an in-home salon for a small fee and a small garden where folks can relax. Activities happen on site, and the community puts effort into social, art, and devotional gatherings, with an art gallery inside that shows work from the Frederick Art Club and changes the exhibits every couple of months.

It matters here that everybody gets to keep their dignity and feel involved, so the atmosphere is warm and respectful, with many long-time volunteers, aides, and managers giving companionship and daily help, making the place feel close and connected. The home has a reputation for high-quality, personal care-earning a 5.0 rating from three reviews- and you'll find it surrounded by downtown Frederick's parks, churches, and historic buildings, which gives folks chances to feel part of the bigger community if they want. Record Street Home takes care of its own and guarantees lifetime health care for accepted residents, making it a rare, steady place where people can settle in and feel safe, supported, and valued.
