    Compassionate staff but unsafe care

I appreciated the responsive, cheerful staff, Dr. James's Alzheimer's-focused programs, brain-activity groups, sun room and generally comfortable, respectful care - many caregivers showed real compassion and humor. However I experienced safety problems (multiple falls), unprofessional caregivers, a condescending, money-driven head doctor, limited activities beyond feeding/putting to bed, extra charges for supplies and frequent requests that family come in to provide basic support. Not set up for elders to roam safely - avoid this facility.

    About Nightingale House

Nightingale House offers a quiet, home-like setting where people aged 55 and older can get help with daily living, like dressing and bathing, and it's built so folks in wheelchairs can move around easily, whether they're heading to the sunroom for an exercise class or to the library to read a book, and the staff, trained in dementia and Alzheimer's care, provide help day and night, offering medication assistance, regular checks, and support with things like catheters, colostomies, incontinence, and diabetes management. Residents can stay short-term or long-term and choose private or semi-private rooms, all with hospital beds and bathrooms, and there's an all-inclusive rent with an entry fee that covers meals, cleaning, laundry, and even internet and TV, with no hidden costs, and families can arrange to stay overnight if they give a day's notice, which is something not every place offers. People living here get support from licensed nurses who plan care for each person, help from a registered pharmacist who checks medications, and third-party visits for things like foot care, haircuts, or even seeing a doctor at home, so residents don't have to travel far for most things, though there's also a shuttle for medical appointments and other outings. The house has safety features like a secure monitoring system, daily night and morning checks by staff, and the whole place is set up to help those with memory loss feel safe and comfortable. There are group activities like music, fitness, and brain games, plus walks and chair exercises in the large sunroom with views of the yard, and there are two big lounges with TVs and a library full of current books, so there's plenty of space for quiet time or socializing. Meals come from a modern kitchen with choices for special diets, including diabetic, vegetarian, or kosher options, and the dining areas are set up so everyone, no matter their needs, can join in. Pets are allowed, which is a comfort to many, and since the house is close to hospitals and public transportation, it's easy for residents and their visitors to get in and out. Nightingale House is licensed for Level 3 Care by the State, so it can provide assisted living, memory care, respite, and hospice services, all in a micro-community environment where each person gets care tailored to their needs, and kindness is an important part of how the staff works with everyone, so people can feel at home while still getting the help they need, whether they're there for a little while or to stay.
