    Nice facility but care inconsistent

I placed my mom here and overall I'm glad - the building is clean, attractive and homey, the staff and management are warm and attentive, activities and meals are solid, and COVID response felt effective. That said, staffing is inconsistent and medical/medication oversight has had lapses (delays, some UTIs/bedsores reported), memory care quality varies, and families often need to advocate. Billing can be unclear and the price is high with extra charges possible. In short: lovely facility and caring people, but expect to monitor care and clarify costs.

    About Brookdale Olney

Brookdale Olney is a senior living community that offers many living options, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, home health, therapy, hospice, and continuing care retirement communities. Residents can choose from different levels of care, with light, medium, and heavy care services available, so people can stay in the community as their needs change over time, and ADL assistance and 24/7 on-site nursing staff are common. Brookdale Olney is purpose-built for memory care, handling seniors with Alzheimer's disease or other dementias, and the community is equipped with safety features like locked doors, wander alarms, and staff trained for behavioral care and exit seeking. Staff can care for people with incontinence or diabetes, including help with insulin injections and bathroom reminders, and the community handles physically aggressive behaviors if needed, with trained nurses on site and a doctor on call. The grounds have both indoor and outdoor common areas, private dining rooms, a light-filled dining area, an immaculate foyer, and a cozy theater, as well as wheelchair accessible showers and pet-friendly options for those who want to keep a dog or cat. Residents enjoy professional chef-prepared, restaurant-style meals with vegetarian, low-sodium, and low-sugar options, and special diets can be managed easily, while guest meals are also available. Activities are a regular part of life, with events like arts and crafts, lectures, gardening, intergenerational programs, cooking classes, community service, brain fitness, and trips. There's a full-time activity director who offers signature programs and person-centered activities so everyone has a chance to stay busy. The community also holds devotional services both on-site and off, and has staff who try to form real bonds with residents and families. There's a beautician on site, free transportation and parking for those who need it, and home care services for seniors still living at home. The main goal is to give residents a safe, comfortable place with help close by if needed, and to let people experience a sense of independence no matter what stage of aging they're in, with health and safety features built right in. Brookdale Olney offers a mix of living spaces and social areas where residents can gather and relax, and services run 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with emergency systems in place. The community runs Brookdale Blogs and has its own unique names for rooms, programs, and amenities, and many people choose it for the variety of services and the effort to help everyone "live well" as they age, including those with complex needs.
