    Understaffed dirty unreliable questionable care

I appreciated that management seemed experienced, some staff were caring, and diets were customized with promised PT/activities and planned upgrades. However, I experienced frequent staff turnover, understaffing and poor med-tech/aide coverage, dirty/soapless bathrooms, maintenance problems, little reliable transportation or activities, and overall poor care - the owner's high rating felt questionable to me.

    About Heron's Creek

Heron's Creek sits in Port Deposit, Maryland, at 112 Red Toad Road, and serves seniors with a range of care needs including assisted living, independent living, nursing home care, and memory care, so if someone's looking for a place with dementia services and help with daily activities like dressing, bathing, or medication, they're going to find those things here. The community's got 11 licensed beds and can support up to 16 residents, with several specialized dementia and memory care units, offering features like secure enclosed courtyards and walking paths for those that like a safe place to stroll, plus alarmed exits and emergency monitoring for peace of mind. The setup feels home-like, designed to support socializing and lower anxiety, which can help folks who might get worried or are prone to wandering. Heron's Creek brings in nurses trained to work with dementia and offers transportation to medical appointments, nutritional meals planned by chefs, and daily brain games or memory-focused activities, including mental games and special Alzheimer's programs meant to keep the mind active and cut down on frustration. Residents can join in on devotional activities, either onsite or offsite if they want, and pets like dogs and cats are allowed, which helps some people feel more at home. The rooms have useful touches too, like bathtubs, wheelchair-accessible showers, and sometimes they're set up for short-term or respite stays. Families can count on care for high acuity, diabetic, or non-ambulatory residents, along with help for incontinence and medication management. Meals are individualized, with plenty of help for those who can't prepare food anymore, and the staff can help with physical, occupational, and speech therapy. The grounds are kept nice and have both indoor and outdoor areas where people can gather. Heron's Creek is licensed by the state, overseen by local government, and they accept Medicare or Medicaid for certain services. There's a concierge service for family members who'd like help finding the right care, and the staff can help connect you to more information and answer questions. The focus stays on providing a comfortable environment, safety, and the right level of support, without trying to make things fancier than they are.
