    Caring staff, clean facility, pricey

My mom has lived here long-term and I'm very happy with the decision. The staff are caring, attentive and responsive - they know residents by name, communicate well, and handled COVID precautions responsibly. The facility is spotless, large and airy with great amenities (fireplace, piano, game rooms, sunrooms) and nice apartments; dining is excellent and varied (nutritious/Mediterranean options, coffee, muffins, cookies) and there are lots of activities. It's a bit pricey with annual increases and some staff turnover, and the building is older so systems can be archaic; transportation to churches/doctor visits is limited. Overall my mom feels safe, comfortable and engaged, and I recommend it.

    About Nashoba Park Assisted Living

Nashoba Park Assisted Living, sitting in the Historic District above downtown Ayer near Harvard, has over 75 private studio and one-bedroom apartments for seniors, each with its own bathroom, kitchen, telephone, and television, which means folks have as much privacy as they want but can join in activities when they feel like it, and it's all pet-friendly, has Wi-Fi, and even offers transportation for those trips out to nearby shops, restaurants, and banks. The facility's managed by Senior Living Residences out of Braintree, MA, and is a Volunteers of America Massachusetts Senior Community, which is a bit of a mouthful but it means there's support behind it. Nashoba Park gives support to people who want to live on their own and also to those who need more help, offering assisted living services day and night, so help with things like bathing, dressing, and medication managing is always there. There's memory care as well, with dedicated programs to help make things easier for people living with Alzheimer's or other types of memory loss, and the staff builds a setting that aims to reduce confusion and prevent wandering.

The layout inside includes community areas like a Sun Room, Piano Lounge, Country Kitchen, dining room, and library, plus social event spaces where folks can take exercise classes, cooking courses, and art classes or join EnrichedLIFE adventures, walking groups, yoga, Tai Chi, singing, or book clubs. Outside, there's a fully enclosed courtyard with a fountain and raised garden beds, even certified as a Wildlife Habitat, along with a patio and picnic space for fresh air and sunshine when the weather's right, and people have said they like the cleanliness, friendly staff, and easy layout for walking around. Meals get served in a restaurant-style dining room using the Brain Healthy Cooking program, which is based on the Mediterranean diet, aiming to keep the food both nutritious and tasty, and everything's made with good ingredients.

Laundry and housekeeping services are handled by staff, and there's a beauty and barber salon so folks can keep up with grooming, plus short-term and trial stays are available for people who want flexibility or time to recover after a hospital visit. The registered nurse gives regular health checks twice a year, and the staff is always there for higher-level care like medication management, incontinence support, and help for those who can't get around easily. Programs with the Harvard Council on Aging tie seniors in with more local resources and information. Residents have commented on the supportive and welcoming feeling in the community, with helpers and aides who know people by name, are quick with a smile, and seem to enjoy being around the residents and their families, making it a comfortable place for people to live, rest, and keep occupied with things to do. The wide choice in floor plans, services, and daily activities means folks can choose what they want, whether that's staying busy or taking it easy, in a place where help is never far away.
