Highview of Northampton provided a mix of care options for seniors, including assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, independent living, and continuing care retirement services, and folks found a wide range of services there, from help with bathing, dressing, and medication management, to support for activities of daily living, with 12-16 hour nursing care and a 24-hour call system, so someone could always get help when they needed it, though it ought to be known they stopped serving the community on December 12, 2024. Residents enjoyed housekeeping, laundry, move-in coordination, as well as transportation and parking, and there were plenty of ways to get around and keep things tidy. There was a professional chef making meals in a big dining room, and special diets got attention, with staff making sure to prepare meals to fit special needs, and people could join in community-sponsored activities, resident-run events, and have something to do just about every day, so there was always a way to stay involved and maybe make some friends. The building had a cozy library, arts and activity rooms, and a fitness room, while the outdoors offered walking paths, a gazebo, and common spaces for gatherings or just sitting out in the fresh air, and folks spent time in bright resident rooms that came with private bathrooms, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and comfortable furniture. The facility put a lot of effort into safety, with things like an emergency alert system and bright, inviting rooms. Residents could get short-term rehabilitation, long-term care, respite, hospice, and even end-of-life care from dedicated staff who emphasized compassion, dignity, and respect, trying to create a supportive place where people felt welcomed and could connect with others, and there was outreach through things like the LTC Mutual Aid Plan, Fight the Flu Campaign, quality and wellness programs, and an overall focus on promoting independence, well-being, and good care transitions. Highview of Northampton belonged to the Massachusetts Senior Care Association, worked with Athena Health Care Systems for medical records, supported staff with career development, helped advocate for better caregiver wages, and focused on safety and wellness, including falls prevention and regulatory compliance. The goal was to give seniors a comfortable, supportive place to live where their individual needs mattered, and where both daily life and medical care were looked after in a peaceful, inclusive setting.

Great bedside staff, unsafe leadership
I have mixed feelings. The nurses, CNAs, therapists and ambassadors were wonderful, caring, helpful with shopping/paperwork, and helped speed recoveries. But management and communication were terrible-administrators and social workers unresponsive-and the building felt run-down, dirty, and disorganized (damaged/missing belongings, wrong shipments). I witnessed severe understaffing, medication delays/neglect, and incidents involving violence and suspected drug use that required police/Narcan. Great bedside staff, but unsafe leadership and conditions - I'd be very cautious and urge investigation.
