    Caring staff, but admin problems

I'm grateful for the caring, knowledgeable nurses, CNAs and therapists - they treat residents like family, communicate well, and keep the facility clean and comfortable, so I feel okay leaving my mom there. That said, administration (including the DON) can be rude and distant, the building needs more attention, and I've seen understaffing/occasional neglect that worries me.

    About Cardigan Nursing Home

Cardigan Nursing Home sits in a small, homelike setting where staff know the residents by name, and families see familiar faces each visit, and you'll notice the Welsh dragon logo and the name tying back to the Welsh town of Cardigan, which gives the place a bit of character. The facility organizes events and themed activities like "Mom on the Go," live music from the Four in Row with old 50s and 60s rock n' roll, and the Magic The Great Rolando Magic Show-there's even a comfort dog from Christ Lutheran Church that visits, and sometimes there's a baby animal petting zoo from Acres to Grow Farm, plus face painting, bounce house, and balloon twisting for children. Cardigan runs different care programs, ranging from respite stays for short-term breaks to long-term skilled nursing for those who need more constant help, and there's hospice care for end of life, restorative nursing, stroke care, and specific services like pain management, wound care, IV care, diabetes and cardiac care, nutritional guidance, and post-surgical recovery, and they work with hospital specialists for anything urgent. Rehabilitation is available for people coming back from surgery or dealing with strokes or other health changes, with options like cardiac rehab, orthopedic therapy, respiratory therapy, and physical, occupational, and speech therapies, and the staff focus on helping each person regain or keep as much function as possible, sometimes using special care plans for those with complicated health needs. Cardigan emphasizes person-centered care, safety, and quality, with policies for things like falls prevention, sepsis awareness, and reducing unnecessary use of antipsychotic medicines, and they're involved in programs like Mass Senior Care and the Massachusetts Healthcare Safety and Quality Consortium, aiming to keep up with best practices and wellness. There's a small family-owned feel with an "open door" policy welcoming families, a focus on training the staff well, and efforts to support caregiver wages. Residents can join in social and recreational activities, get support with discharge planning, and take part in wellness or health campaigns, while rooms and accommodations aim to stay comfortable and safe. Cardigan is Medicare and Medicaid certified. The goal is always to help everyone feel at home, provide needed care, and support the highest level of wellbeing possible, and the staff work to make each day better in small, practical ways.
