    Compassionate care with staffing caveats

I moved my mom into the memory-care community and overall I'm very grateful - the staff are compassionate, attentive, and professional, life-enrichment keeps residents engaged with excellent activities and entertainment, the grounds and dining are lovely, and on-site nursing/psychiatry and prompt emergency response gave us real peace of mind. Management is responsive, communication is usually timely, and the place feels safe and like a second family. My only caveat: staffing shortages and turnover sometimes lead to inconsistent nursing coverage and gaps in communication, so ask about current staffing before deciding.

About Bridges by EPOCH At Westford

Bridges by EPOCH at Westford is a senior living community that provides many care levels, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and respite care. The community offers both studio and semi-private rooms with prices averaging $11,380, and these rooms sit within a purpose-built building focused on safety, especially for residents with Alzheimer's or other kinds of dementia. The staff includes nurses on site with a doctor on call, and there are always awake staff present around the clock to help residents with daily needs, medication, and behavioral care. Residents who have wandering or aggressive behaviors can be cared for in a secure environment where safety bracelets prevent them from getting lost. Bridges by EPOCH at Westford welcomes people who use wheelchairs, have memory issues, or need help moving from one level of care to another as health changes.

The kitchen serves restaurant-style meals with a chef able to handle special diets like gluten-free, low or no sodium, and low or no sugar. Private dining rooms are available for special occasions, and guests can join for meals. Friday afternoon happy hours bring themed snacks and drinks, both with and without alcohol. Residents can join a wide range of activities such as art classes, stretching, Tai Chi, yoga, cooking classes, brain fitness, educational talks, gardening, karaoke, pet programs, trips, trivia, Wii bowling, and wine tasting. A full-time activity director plans these events, and there's a regular Friday happy hour and intergenerational programs too. There are indoor and outdoor social spaces, beautiful grounds, courtyards with walking paths, raised garden beds, rocking chairs, and umbrellas for shade.

The memory care services stand out, as the Memorial Care Suites keep safety and calmness first, with special programs and therapies for people with dementia or Alzheimer's and personalized care that honors each resident's life and interests. The facility has a Purple Flag for Dementia Care accreditation, showing high standards and ongoing staff training, including partnerships with McLean Hospital for geriatric mental health. Residents can depend on in-person caregiver support groups, arts and music therapies, educational events, and daily programs for meaning and social connection. The staff includes CNAs, nurses, maintenance workers, and chefs who treat residents with kindness and respect.

On top of all this, the facility allows pets, with policies for both dogs and cats. There is on-site transportation, parking for residents, and the option of transportation at an extra cost. Visiting health professionals such as podiatrists, dentists, and therapists drop by, and there are on-site beauty services, as well as religious and spiritual activities available. Residents can't smoke indoors in any area, whether public or private, and staff make sure assistance is always there, day or night. The community's mission focuses on dignity, safety, and keeping each resident engaged and valued, with daily efforts to make residents feel happy, heard, and connected.
