    Resident very happy with care

I live here and couldn't be happier - owner RN Becky and her caring, proactive staff truly know each resident's needs and keep the place small and home-like. My large private room has an extra kitchen, we eat the same meals as Becky's family, and affordable private family dinners are available. Nice, attentive staff and plenty of resources - no complaints.

    About Lakewood Assisted Living

Lakewood Assisted Living sits out in Augusta, MI, right in the country between Kalamazoo and Battle Creek, so you'll see a lot of trees and birds out there, and it's been running as a private, family-run home for seniors since 1999. Folks living at Lakewood Assisted Living get a choice between private suites or shared rooms, each with its own bathroom, air conditioning, cable TV, Wi-Fi, and sometimes a small kitchen, and you can find fireplaces and outdoor patios where people like to sit together or just relax. Housekeeping and linen service come standard, so residents don't worry about cleaning or laundry, and nobody has to do any cooking unless they want to, since meals use organic ingredients and sometimes there's vegetarian options, international meals, guest dining, and special programs for folks who need diets with low salt or sugar.

Caregivers follow state rules for how many staff need to be around, and somebody's always there day or night, including nurses on staff, a doctor on call, and visiting therapists for things like speech, physical needs, or for sore feet. At Lakewood, they help with things like bathing, dressing, getting around, medicine reminders, and more involved support for folks who might use a wheelchair or need lifts or two-person help to move. People can stay in their same room as their needs go up, because Lakewood supports light to heavy care, medication management, help with diabetes, and even behavioral support for seniors who might get confused or upset, with a separate secured section for memory care, alarms to prevent wandering, and close watching for anyone at risk for wandering or with advanced needs like Alzheimer's or dementia. Folks can stay while on hospice or take a break with short-term respite care if a family needs relief.

There's a full calendar of activities both inside and out, including pet programs, devotional services, and trips so people stay active and make friends, and families can visit or join for meals in private dining rooms as well. Lakewood offers transportation to appointments, errands, or outings, and there's parking for residents, so there's less hassle for folks who still drive. The staff keeps things safe and welcoming, and they work to help every person be as independent as they want, while making sure there's always help close, whether it's for everyday needs or things that change suddenly. People often say Lakewood feels like a big family, with care tailored to what each person needs and a strong focus on residents feeling respected and supported, with management tools in place to help keep everything running smooth. Guests and residents mostly seem to appreciate the peace and comfort, the flexible meal options, and the sense that help is always around if it's needed without being all over you unless you want it.
