The Oaks at Byron Center sits in a quiet area and has 60 certified beds for people who need nursing care, with about 54 residents each day, and the place has independent living apartments, assisted living, and memory care neighborhoods, so you see people at all different stages of life there, and they have 24-hour skilled nursing, help for those with dementia and Alzheimer's, and rehabilitation services if folks need to recover from something, but when it comes to inspections, there've been some issues, with reports showing 19 deficiencies, four of them infection-related, and out of 9 problems listed in a recent inspection, three dealt with infection control, which is something federal rules say they have to handle well, but apparently there've been some slips, and they once got noted for not getting food from approved sources either, now management shifted a bit with Trilogy Management Services stepping in around October 2021, and Brian Loos has been there since late 2019, and the place is part of Trilogy Health Services, nurse turnover at 52.4% runs a bit high above the state average, though you do see the staff giving about 4.36 nurse hours per resident per day, which is more than most places in Michigan, and as you walk around, you see a health center, library, private dining room, billiards room, salon, fitness center, and even a movie theater, with water views from some parts and a beauty shop and barbershop for folks to get a little pampering or just feel like themselves, they serve daily meals, set up rides with a chauffeured limousine, arrange activities, and have a health office on-site if you need help or just have a health question, plus they're connected with the Certified Assisted Living Director program and offer some training and resources for care standards, and all in all, this place tries to cover independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing, though you'll want to pay attention to the inspection reports and make sure the care fits what you or your loved one might need.

Beautiful care, but staffing issues
I placed my mom here and overall I'm glad I did - the building is beautiful and spotless, staff are warm and caring, there are lots of activities, good meals, and excellent on-site therapy and nursing support. My mom was well-loved, engaged, and made friends; staff were friendly and attentive when present. That said, I experienced staffing shortages, slow call-light/medication responses, occasional communication and management lapses, and you need to stay involved as an advocate. I'd recommend this place for its care and environment, but go in with eyes open and keep close oversight.
