    Effective rehab, but unsafe facility

I was impressed at first - the building felt welcoming, the rehab/PT was effective, rooms were spacious and clean, and many staff were kind and attentive. After my loved one moved to long-term care the impression faded: staffing shortages, delayed call lights, soiled bedding, cold food, missed/incorrect medications, weight loss and even pressure-sores and poor wound care were serious problems. Communication was often slow or unclear, rooms were smaller/shared than pictured, and Alzheimer's training seemed inadequate. That said, many individual caregivers were compassionate, kitchen/staff tried to be responsive, and a new administration showed signs of improvement. Overall it's a mixed experience: some excellent people and good rehab, but persistent safety and staffing issues mean I'd be very cautious.

    About Intersect Healthcare of Grandville

Intersect Healthcare of Grandville sits in a quiet residential area in Grandville, Michigan, and runs as a Christian, non-profit care community where seniors find different levels of support as their needs change, whether they're looking for independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care, or even hospice and home health care. The facility has both private and semi-private rooms, and although the rates are above the local and state average, the community gives access to two cafes and is close to parks, restaurants, places of worship, and medical centers, which can make things easier for residents and their families who visit. The board and care home model means only a small group of residents live together in a house-like setting, and the staff provides help with things like daily activities, meals, medication, and personal care anytime, day or night. There's a nurse concierge named Rosalind Childs, leading clinical staff like Regional Director of Clinical Caroline Kakembo RN, MSN, NHA, and operations overseen by Mark D. Radtke, LNHA, so residents see some familiar faces managing their care. Folks with Alzheimer's or dementia have secure spaces, memory-enhancing activities, and specialized programs. Skilled nursing supports people who need around-the-clock medical supervision, help after surgery, rehabilitation-including one-on-one physical and cardiac therapy sessions-and longer term stays for more complicated health needs, and there's also an on-site dialysis unit, plus SmarterHeart Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab services. Adult day care, respite, and at-home options add flexibility, and independent living comes with resort-style amenities, organized social events, and maintenance-free living if people want that, so residents can stay as active as they're able. As part of the Sunset Retirement Communities & Services group, the facility takes part in community outreach and local events around Grandville and Jenison, plus it belongs to the Grandville Jenison Chamber of Commerce and offers its own member benefits, like Member To Member Deals and networking for seniors and nonprofits. There are staff available for admissions and care 24 hours a day, and the approach centers around kind, patient-focused treatment, aiming to help seniors stay as independent and comfortable as possible, whether they need a little help, more complex medical care, or specialized memory support.
