Village at the Oaks sits in Muskegon, Michigan, and offers several types of senior living including independent living, assisted living, memory care, and nursing care, and folks who live here get access to a mix of services and amenities designed with safety, comfort, and daily support in mind, so when you look around, you'll see things like barrier-free apartments with handicap accessible bathrooms and kitchenettes, individual climate controls, washers and dryers handy, and emergency pendants for peace of mind. There's cable and satellite TV, Wi-Fi throughout, and the rooms can get room service if wanted, plus many spots-like the game room, library, movie theater, meeting rooms, fitness center, chapel, arts and crafts area, and salon or barber-where people can gather or enjoy some quiet, and there's even covered parking, guest parking, outdoor gardens, and walking paths. Residents can have pets or visits from them, and there's a raised gardening bed out back along with a courtyard for sitting or gardening or just getting some sun, and when meals roll around, they serve them restaurant-style in a dining room, with a chef preparing healthy meals that can fit special diets, and they even offer homemade pizza that can be delivered to the rooms if you're not up to joining everyone else, plus vegan or low-sodium meals if needed. Care and support go as far as 24-hour supervision, medication help, help with bathing or getting dressed, incontinence care, memory support for Alzheimer's, and visiting podiatrists or physicians stop by, along with onsite lab services when needed. They've paid attention to safety too, with security features like a sprinkler system and organized activities, from exercise programs to chapel services and offsite trips or events. People can choose from different floor plans, including private apartments, studios, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom setups, and there's housekeeping every week, laundry and linen service, and transportation that'll get you to doctor appointments or run errands on designated days. The team at Village at the Oaks keeps life pretty lively, so folks have programs for exercise, arts and crafts, education, health and wellness, and all sorts of social engagement, and guests can stay overnight in guest rooms. The place tries to cover most utilities except for telephone, and for faith, wellness, or just a sense of belonging, they offer devotional services, a piano or organ, and lots of opportunities for residents over 55 to connect, relax, or stay as involved as they'd like. Village at the Oaks is run by Trinity Health Senior Communities and offers a virtual tour online for people who want to have a look before visiting, and the general feel you get is that staff aim to be helpful and respectful, keeping the place friendly for both residents and guests.

Caring community with staffing issues
I'm very happy overall: the staff are kind and caring, the community is clean and well-kept with gardens, a mile-long track, exercise room and lots of activities plus monthly outings and a weekly shopping bus. My apartment has a full kitchen, housekeeping and utilities are included, and there are assisted- and memory-care options if needed. Meals are good most of the time but occasionally disappointing; I have noticed staffing shortages, some inconsistent med checks and slow nurse response at times, and I've heard concerns about discrimination. Administration is generally responsive and helpful - I'd recommend this facility for the quality of care and sense of community, though affordability and weekend medical coverage could be issues.
