    Clean, caring community but costly

I toured this brand-new, beautiful senior community and was impressed - warm, non-pushy staff; spotless, well-appointed apartments (bedroom, living room, kitchen options); lovely views, lots of activities, and excellent meals that my mom really enjoys. The Arbor memory care and many programs felt especially caring, and the place has a safe, home-like, Christian non-profit vibe with responsive staff. Downsides: it's rural (longer drives for visitors), expensive, and current parking/exit conditions and occasional staffing/after-hours gaps are real concerns for frailer residents. Overall I'd recommend it for its cleanliness, programming, and attentive staff, but weigh the cost and accessibility issues first.

    About The Farmstead

The Farmstead, run by Presbyterian Homes & Services, gives older adults independent living, assisted living, and memory care options in a place that feels both clean and safe, where comfort is a priority and you don't ever have to worry about things like yardwork or repairs because there's always someone nearby to help, and with easy entry showers and sturdy grab bars in the bathrooms, moving around is a little safer. Apartments and townhomes have plenty of room, with one- and two-bedroom layouts, high ceilings, walk-in storage, and modern kitchens with all the main appliances you'd expect like refrigerators, stoves, dishwashers, and self-cleaning ovens, so there's no hassle when you want to fix a meal, and some even have private laundry and attached garages with remote openers, which means it's a bit easier when it comes to keeping up normal routines, plus there's car wash bays right onsite for folks who still drive. The air and heat you can control yourself, which keeps things comfortable when the weather changes, and you don't have to fuss over laundry because they offer both complimentary machines and private washer/dryers, too, depending on the unit, and cable TV comes with the place for basic entertainment.

There's a lot of activities to join in, like card games, bingo, choir, Wii Bowling, bean bag toss, and social gatherings on the patio, and you can help decide what's next on the schedule since residents get to give input about the activity plan, so if you like to keep busy, there's always something social, physical, or even spiritual, as the facility has worship services onsite and weekly programs led by local churches. Folks can walk the paths around the grounds, tend the resident gardens, or stop by the general store and the little boutique in the old Round Barn, which is something a bit different, and for those who want to keep fit, the fitness center and scheduled classes can help, along with wellness programs that cover things like rehab, memory care, and emotional support, plus there's salon services and a library if you want some quiet time. If dining is important, they've got a set menu with meals focused on nutrition and taste, and guests can join for a meal or stay overnight in guest suites, which are available when family wants to visit.

Supportive services cover most daily needs, from housekeeping and basic maintenance to personal care and help with daily living, and those who need a higher level of help-like memory loss-will find specific care for memory impairments so families can feel a little more at ease about safety and wandering. The home care program means that trained aides can offer companionship or non-medical support for seniors who want to stay independent or age in their own space. Emergency response systems are in place, and the staff, who tend to get recognized for being friendly and helpful, step in quickly when needed, trying to keep things running smoothly and make sure everyone feels welcome, and because the facility's a faith-based nonprofit, Christian values play a part in how they run both community life and services. Residents also get use of the business office, salon, library, game and activity rooms, and other spaces that help keep the days full for folks who choose to participate. There may not be a lot of flashy extras here, but the focus seems to be on safe, practical comfort, with good support, some choice in how involved you want to be, and enough variety that most anyone could find something to do each day.
