Cedars of Austin is a family-owned senior community named for its beautiful grounds, and it's set up with care for older adults in mind, so you'll find many different levels of support all in one place, including independent living, assisted living, and memory care services for people living with Alzheimer's or dementia, plus you'll see the names of areas like Reflections Assisted Living, Our House Senior Living Memory Care, Kingsley House, and The Carlson Home of Austin Inc. The community keeps safety at the center, with things like 24-hour supervision, call systems, and specialized care for memory loss and wandering, using bracelets with alarms and a secured property to make sure people don't get lost, and residents with more complex needs including dementia, behavioral symptoms, or non-ambulatory transfers using mechanical lifts find the staff trained and available at all times. You'll notice a variety of rooms, from studio apartments to furnished bedrooms with walk-in showers, all clean and simple, with an average price of $4,150 for memory care, and extra fees depending on each person's care needs, like $400 for low care, $800 for medium, and $1,200 for high. Staff offer help with daily needs like bathing, dressing, transfers, or just reminders, and the community works closely with healthcare providers, while a nurse is always there in case any medical support is needed, and caregivers can give hospice and respite care, too. The property itself includes a deck, a lush enclosed courtyard, walking paths, mature trees, gardens, a pond with a fountain, and benches or gazebos to just sit outside, while inside you'll find a cozy library, activity rooms for games and crafts, a dining area with home-cooked meals, and spaces for social events, church or devotional services, and even a beauty salon and barber. Activities change up all the time and can include things like movie nights, bingo, art projects, musical performances, or trips on the shuttle bus for shopping or outings, and there's always a full-time activity director to keep things lively, including off-site events and weekly bus rides. Pets like cats and dogs are welcome, and guest meals are available if family or friends come by. Memory care stands out as a separate, purpose-built space, with a kitchen designed to feel like home, secure areas to prevent wandering, and specialized programs for people with Alzheimer's or other dementias, including mentally engaging activities and wellness plans to help people stay active and connected, while staff provide extra supervision for those at risk for elopement or difficult behaviors. Independent living lets people stay active and social with maintenance-free living, planned events, and transportation services, while assisted living is for those who want to keep their independence but need a hand with daily tasks or medication. Residents can take part in both indoor and outdoor activities, use garden paths, sit out on the patio, or just enjoy the views from large windows in the common areas, and there's a focus on good food, including meals that fit special dietary needs, all-day dining, and transportation for errands or medical visits, plus parking for those who drive themselves. The culture's known for being friendly and welcoming, and many families rate the community highly, with caring staff who create a comfortable atmosphere and help seniors keep a sense of belonging and purpose as they age. Cedars of Austin takes pride in steady routines, joyful activities, and thoughtful support, aiming for a safe and positive place where people can stay, even as their care needs change over time.

Grateful care, but staffing concerns
I'm a family member of a long-term resident and overall grateful - the staff are frequently kind and responsive, nurses available 24/7, and the place feels safe with private baths, heated underground parking, a lovely courtyard and a convenient downtown location. Activities are plentiful and well run (bus trips, bingo, music, socials), dining and service can be excellent, and memory-care staff are attentive and nurturing. Major caveats: the facility is often short-staffed, transportation/van service is limited, the memory unit can feel small and depressing, and there have been reports of poor cleaning, infections and even staff-related issues. My impression: excellent care and peace of mind in many respects, but insist on a careful tour and clear answers about staffing and infection control before deciding.
