    Warm caregivers but unreliable leadership

My family moved Dad here and I've been impressed by the caring staff, very clean facility and grounds, good and varied meals, and an active social calendar (bingo, crafts, music, outings) plus an on-site salon and spacious room options. The location is convenient and it feels like a family-like community, but several services have been cut back (van/transport), laundry and room cleaning can be inconsistent, and maintenance is often slow. My biggest concern is management: persistent, long-standing issues, understaffing, and an unresponsive administration/leadership that haven't resolved complaints. I'd recommend touring for the warm caregivers and activities, but go in aware of the leadership and service reliability problems.

    About Edgewood Baxter

Edgewood Baxter sits in a quiet, wooded part of Minnesota lake country and has been there since 2002, with 50 beds and 50 private apartments that come as one- or two-bedroom units, and those offer a bathroom, kitchen, closet, living room, bedroom, and an emergency call system, so residents have both comfort and some privacy. The staff has a reputation for being kind and helpful, and the grounds stay clean, with walking areas and a neighborhood feel that people find welcoming. The community gives seniors a range of living options, including independent living if folks are still active, and assisted living if more help is needed, as well as memory care for people with dementia or Alzheimer's, plus nursing home care if someone needs it.

Residents can bring along their cats or dogs, and there's a schedule full of onsite and offsite activities, so there's quite a bit people can do, from bingo games to outings and field trips, with an activity director making sure the calendar's full. There's a program named "A Part of You" for entertainment, learning, and educational challenges, which many residents enjoy, and the activities support socializing and keep seniors connected. The facility provides devotional services onsite, and meals get cooked by a chef and meal planner who focus on good nutrition, and guests can join residents for those meals too.

Edgewood Baxter also offers memory care services with routines and brain activities for those who have Alzheimer's or other issues with memory, and these things are tailored to each person to help them feel comfortable. Assisted living services include help with daily activities while still letting residents do things on their own as much as possible, and there are short-term stays, respite, and adult day services for people who don't plan to move in long-term. The place also includes a beauty salon, barbershop, and fitness room, and staff can provide help with health and personal care.

There are care advisors available to answer questions for families and community tours are offered both online and in person, so families can get a sense of the place before deciding anything. Since being acquired back in December 2016, Edgewood Baxter has kept a strong focus on personalized care, and many reviewers praise the community for the friendly atmosphere and careful attention to residents. The reviews averaged 5.0 stars from two families, but there aren't any published prices, so families need to ask for rate cards for assisted living and memory care if they want exact costs. Virtual tours and floor plans are available, and families can request extra information about community events or amenities as needed.
