    Beautiful community, but staffing issues

I live in this brand-new, bright 55+ community and love the grand-hotel feel, top-of-the-line amenities, huge activity calendar and the cheerful staff who try to treat me like a queen. That said, I've experienced long wait times for help, short-staffing, maintenance delays (including TV outages), and have had safety concerns that worry me. Meals were amazing at first but I've noticed declining portions and nutrition. I'd recommend touring - it's beautiful and comfortable, but factor in high rent and ongoing staffing/management issues.

About The Pillars of Grand Rapids

The Pillars of Grand Rapids sits nestled in the woods along the Mississippi River, and you can find both quiet privacy and a sense of community here, which many seniors like. The place has 110 apartments for independent living, assisted living, and memory care, plus options for short stays called Stay by Day. The facility isn't pet friendly. The community gives seniors a maintenance-free lifestyle with different floor plans, private apartments, and all sorts of services. Round-the-clock care is there if needed, with registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, resident assistants, and home care aides ready to support folks. People living here get nutritious meals planned and made by chefs, and there's dinner out on the patio for anyone who enjoys eating with friends.

You can find care here for different needs, like incontinence and diabetes, plus non-ambulatory care, and there's both independent living and memory care available for people who need more supervision or support. All sorts of amenities are included, such as a movie theater, pub, chapel, salon, fitness center, walking trails, screened porch with a deck, and transportation for community outings. There's always something going on, whether it's devotional activities, watching a movie, or even playing pickleball with visiting grandkids. There are also special programs and activity assistants helping everyone join in if they want to. The focus is on community-centered care, both for seniors and people with other needs, with some unique features like adult day care and intergenerational childcare centers.

The community tries its best to create a safe and comfortable place for everyone, with a big emphasis on dignity, integrity, service, compassion, and innovation-those are their core values, and you can see them in their programs and daily routines. Office hours run from 8:00 to 16:30 during weekdays, but care is there 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The building is handicap-friendly, with lots of common spaces for relaxing or socializing. Folks also get access to expert advice from senior living advisors if needed and can pick up a brochure for more information. Ebenezer, the company running The Pillars of Grand Rapids, has been in senior living since 1917 and manages other communities, mainly in Minnesota. The facility's won awards for Best of Senior Living, Best Activities, and Most Friendly, though of course, every person's experience can be a bit different. The Pillars of Grand Rapids has several roles open for employment, like server, cook, housekeeper, activity assistant, and several nursing positions, so there's always a team working to provide support. The main mission is to help people live longer, healthier, and more meaningful lives through healing, learning, and community.
