    Clean, caring staff, inconsistent management

I spent two pleasant years in the memory-care unit and overall felt well cared for. The facility is extremely clean - dedicated cleaning staff and spotless bathrooms - and the attentive, helpful staff made doctor visits, activities (bingo and varied weekly programs) and the community bus valuable. That said, management is strict and inconsistent: I saw residents restricted from the bus and even evicted/kicked out for outspoken behavior, and there are worrying reports of medication overuse, favoritism and alleged abuse. I'm emotional to leave and would cautiously recommend this place for its excellent staff and cleanliness, but be aware of the management issues.

    About Long Lake Assisted Living

Long Lake Assisted Living sits over in Long Lake, Minnesota, close to the western suburbs of Minneapolis, and the facility's got room for up to 42 residents, which makes it a place that's not too big but not too small either, and they've gone and remodeled things recently so the living spaces are pretty up to date, with private rooms and private bathrooms that give people some needed privacy, and you've got the common areas inside and outside where people can spend their time if they're wanting company or maybe a change of scenery, plus residents who use wheelchairs will find accessible showers and hallways that make it easier to get around, and the grounds have enclosed courtyards which give people a safe spot to enjoy a bit of fresh air. The staff includes over a dozen employees, and there's always someone around, including a licensed nurse-Bridgette Kelly, RN, LALD, who handles the clinical services, and Keith Unger is the administrator and owner, while Michael Bestge works as the office manager, so there's always a go-to person for questions or problems that come up, and the community tries to keep a family-like feel. The place accepts male residents everywhere, with a few areas set aside for women, and they don't let people smoke indoors in any of the private or common areas. Folks who live here can bring a cat, or sometimes a dog, since the facility's got pet-friendly policies, which isn't always the case with senior living, so that's a help for people who'd rather not live without their pet, and meals are provided, with the kitchen making sure to offer special options for those who need different diets, plus snacks get served, and housekeepers keep up with laundry and cleaning.

Long Lake Assisted Living holds proper licensing, carrying the assisted living license #30339, and they accept several funding sources including the DD Waiver, CADI Waiver, and TBI, which means some different folks can get care even if they're working with a waiver program, and the place offers independent living options, customized living arrangements, as well as regular assisted living programs and specialized memory care for people dealing with dementia or Alzheimer's. People who need daily support, help with their medicine, incontinence care, diabetic care, or even non-ambulatory care can get those needs met here, and there's hospice and respite care available too, so it's got flexibility for changing needs over time. The community's got a dedicated activity director and runs plenty of on-site activities along with devotional services and beauty salons, plus there are off-site field trips and outings, and when folks need a ride, Long Lake Assisted Living offers transportation services for a fee and sometimes complimentary, and those who drive can use the parking on-site. For healthcare needs, nurses are on staff, a doctor's on call, and they even have on-site therapy options like physical, occupational, and speech therapy, plus home care can be provided if someone needs more specific support. Residents can expect meals at regular times, social and recreational events, onsite beautician or barber services, along with personalized help with bathing, dressing, and other daily living skills, all worked into a plan that aims to fit whatever a person needs. The facility isn't BBB accredited, but it tries to focus on affordable, family-oriented care, and staff mostly speak English, so folks looking for a comfortable, simple place to live that meets both social and practical needs may find what they're looking for here, and right now, Long Lake Assisted Living has several openings available for new residents.
