    Gorgeous facility, uneven care quality

I found the facility gorgeous and conveniently next to the hospital, and many staff were compassionate, professional, and helped me (or my loved one) recover and go home. However, chronic understaffing and inconsistent management led to long wait times, missed meds and occasional neglect (left on the floor, soiled care), small rooms, and mediocre food. Overall I appreciate the caring team and good therapy, but the quality can be uneven - visit and ask about staffing and oversight before deciding.

    About Oaklawn Rehabilitation Center

Oaklawn Rehabilitation Center sits right next to the Mayo Mankato Hospital and the nearby medical clinic, so folks who need care can get help easily, and it's a place that really puts focus on helping people recover through its Rehabilitation and Therapy Services, and there's always a team around that's known for being skilled and caring with people, whether someone's there for a short stay after a hospital visit or needs long-term nursing care. The center's got its own Rehab Suite and Therapy Center, which means people who need physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech therapy can get what they need right there, and everything's set up to match each person's care plan, since Oaklawn works hard to look at every resident's individual needs, using specialized programs and dedicated therapy units. For folks with memory loss, there's a secure, specialized Memory Care Program, and for families that need a break, they've got respite care too, so it's possible to step in and out as needed. Some folks stay here long-term, while others come to the Recovery Suites or Therapy Center for short stays, which makes it pretty flexible, and there's always a 24-hour nursing staff and all kinds of services provided to help keep people as independent as they can be. The building and grounds are set up with comfort and accessibility in mind, so there's wide hallways, outdoor spaces for fresh air and sunshine, and living areas that make it feel a little more like home, plus extras meant to keep people comfortable and safe while they're there. Oaklawn has a Patient Care Program that pays attention to every detail and supports both medical and daily living needs, and people say the staff has a real reputation in the community for being not just skilled, but friendly and compassionate-folks have positive things to say, and the center's earned some accreditations along the way. There's even a Nursing Assistant in Training program, which seems to help with keeping good people on staff, and the place runs with an eye on both customer service and quality care, whether someone's in short-term rehabilitation, long-term care, assisted living, or hospice care. Oaklawn aims to give everyone a safe place for recovery or long-term support, making sure they're living the best life they can.
