    Outstanding care, serious safety concerns

I experienced outstanding, compassionate nursing and therapy - staff were competent, kind, welcoming to family, kept us informed, helped secure testing and likely saved my loved one's life. The building is beautiful with many activities, dining options and a warm reception team. However, chronic understaffing, poor weekend coverage, low-paid caregivers, spotty vetting, medication/dehydration errors, delayed fall reporting, a two-day AC outage, and troubling management/HR issues (DNR used to limit accountability, police unhelpful) create real safety and accountability risks. I loved much of the care but it's expensive and I would strongly warn others to weigh these serious concerns before placing a loved one here.

    About  Boutwells Landing

Boutwells Landing sits on a beautiful property with ponds, walkways, and rolling parkland, offering independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and transitional care under one roof, so folks can find what they need as life changes without moving away from familiar faces. Residents can choose from a variety of living options like townhomes, brownstones, and apartments with as few as one bedroom or as many as four, and most spaces offer individually controlled heat and air, accessible bathrooms with roll-in showers, and in some cases, full kitchens including refrigerators, stoves, ovens, and microwaves, so life feels close to what people are used to at home. Those in independent living enjoy community spaces, maintenance-free living, and opportunities to stay active with a fitness center, pool, library, movie theater, and creative arts areas, and there are regular classes, events, and activities meant to help folks stay busy and enjoy the company of others, along with walking paths for those who like being outside. The Commons offers assisted living with studios and apartments, including help with meals, housekeeping, and medication when needed, and pets can live with residents if certain fees are paid, keeping routines as normal as possible. The Arbor is the memory care section, designed for folks with dementia or Alzheimer's, with a comforting, secure setting, private apartments, and thoughtfully trained staff, and they keep the number of residents per unit small (no more than 17) for personalized care, safety, and neighborly connections. For those who need more support or have gone through illness or surgery, the Care Center provides skilled nursing and transitional care, with private suites, therapy services like physical and speech therapy, and a neighborly setting where it feels less like a hospital and more like a caring home, so recovery and long-term care are less stressful. Boutwells Landing keeps up a full calendar with social, educational, and recreational programs, encouraging people to meet and make friends, and places for billiards, games, crafts, chapel services, and quiet reading in the library, plus there's a Town Center with shops, café, and even banking services from First State Bank and Trust available on Tuesdays and by appointment, which is rare for a senior facility. Dining includes two daily meals served restaurant-style for assisted and independent living, flexible hours, and guest options if family or friends visit, and all meals are known for being nutritious and tasty, emphasizing quality ingredients. There's a 24-hour response system, on-site Resident Assistant staffing, scheduled van transportation, and extras like underground or attached parking, laundry service, on-site dentistry and lab, salon for hair and grooming, and business office plus storage options, so daily living is easier for everyone. The staff at Boutwells Landing have earned praise for being friendly and helpful, and the community has received awards for having excellent activities and a welcoming atmosphere. Pets are welcome under certain rules, and the whole space is designed to offer comfort and connection without the pressure to leave if care needs increase over time, so folks can simply focus on living well and maintaining friendships as their needs change.
