    Bright facility, but safety concerns

I placed my mom here and overall I'm impressed: bright, remodeled facility with very large, newer rooms, a lovely courtyard, chapel and pleasant indoor connections; staff are warm, know residents' names, meals are generous and there are many activities and outings. The building is clean and well kept, and move-in/financial help was smooth. That said, communication can lag, there have been occasional shower and medication delays, and activities sometimes don't happen as listed. I was also alarmed to hear reports of serious neglect, delayed medical responses after falls, billing problems and aggressive incident handling - so do a thorough tour, ask about staffing and safety protocols before deciding.

    About Traditions of Owatonna

Traditions of Owatonna has two newly remodeled locations called Traditions I and Traditions II, and together they offer 98 apartment homes with hardwood floors, warm colors, and a country style design that makes things feel more comfortable for seniors who want both privacy and a community setting with people to spend time with. Staff are available 24 hours a day to help residents with personal care and other needs, and there's a focus on treating everyone with respect and keeping routines familiar. Residents can choose from assisted living, memory care, independent living, nursing home services, or respite care, and there's a designated memory care unit for people who need extra support, plus aging in place options when a person's care needs change over time.

The Traditions of Owatonna community offers a peaceful setting with enclosed courtyards filled with gardens and trees where residents can spend time outdoors, and the inside has cozy lounges, small lunchrooms, and sitting rooms for relaxing or socializing with friends and family. There's a chapel for spiritual activities and devotional services, and snacks, coffee, and guest meals are also available throughout the day. Art classes, Bingo, gardening, field trips, and group outings give residents a chance to explore hobbies and spend time together, while a full-time activity director plans daily group programs and one-on-one activities, especially for those in memory care.

People can bring their cats or dogs, and assisted living provides things like housekeeping, help with dressing and bathing, and transportation to appointments or events. There's a beauty salon, wheelchair accessible showers, and both vegetarian and regular dining choices, so different needs are met. The team forms trust-based relationships and really works to make everyone feel welcome and safe, checking in with cheerful greetings and making sure no one feels left out or alone. Whether someone enjoys outdoor walks, trips in the community van, or a quiet afternoon in a sitting room, there's always something to do, and the friendly environment helps residents feel a sense of belonging and connection.

The community is managed by Cedar Lodge, and some care options such as Birchwood Cottages, Ecumen CountrySide, Timberdale Trace, Lincoln Square, Valley Terrace of Owatonna, Ecumen Brooks, Benedictine Living Community-Owatonna, and Medford Senior Care offer different settings, but the approach stays focused on providing thoughtful, individualized support for every resident, especially helping those with dementia or memory issues feel known and safe. Respite care is available as a temporary option to give families a break or to help residents recover after an illness or injury, and the staff tries to treat everyone as if they're family, making sure no one is overlooked or ignored. Residents' happiness and well-being have improved with these services, and the comfortable atmosphere with lots of chances for conversation and activity helps people stay active and involved through the years.
