    Exceptional caring community, minor issues

I moved my parents into independent living here and we feel blessed - the staff are exceptional, caring and responsive (Molly at the desk and Chad in maintenance were especially helpful). The facility is very clean, well-maintained and beautiful with large apartments, fireplaces, screened balconies, underground heated parking, lovely grounds and a classy, loving/Christ-like atmosphere. Dining is excellent with tasty daily specials and the community normally offers many activities (COVID paused them); memory care felt small and not welcoming, so not suitable for dementia needs. Only downsides: no rooms available right now (remodeling planned), internet is slow and the manager wasn't around on Sunday - still, I highly recommend touring.

    About SummerWood of Plymouth

SummerWood of Plymouth sits at 16205 36th Ave N in Plymouth, MN, offering long-term care for seniors in a peaceful spot overlooking wetlands, and the community features a mix of independent living, assisted living, memory care, and transitional care apartments all in one place, so a person can stay in the same community even when their needs change. This faith-based, nonprofit senior living community is run by Presbyterian Homes & Services and welcomes people of all backgrounds, with a special focus on Christian ministry, but it's open to everyone regardless of faith. There are 150 licensed beds, and the facility holds a 4.0-star rating for quality of care. The community doesn't accept Medicare as payment and isn't certified by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, but it does take checks, credit cards, and insurance.

Apartments come in different layouts like studios, one-bedrooms, two-bedrooms, and luxury units, and many independent living apartments have screened porches, full kitchens with dishwashers and microwave ovens, in-home laundry, and even fireplaces in some units, while assisted living areas offer accessible bathrooms and help with daily tasks. A special memory care area, known as The Arbor, serves residents with dementia or Alzheimer's, with careful design features for safety and comfort.

Many types of help are available here, including assistance with bathing, meals, medication, and laundry, along with housekeeping and linen services. Residents can also receive nursing home care, memory care, hospice care, and transitional care as needed, plus there's therapy services like occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy right on site. There's always a Resident Assistant around since staffing covers 24 hours a day, and a nurse is there part-time too, so someone's always nearby to help.

SummerWood of Plymouth tries to keep people active and social with daily activities, such as instructor-led fitness classes, walking trails, card games, art classes, music programs, billiards, movie nights in the community theater, and spiritual events like Bible study and on-site worship in the chapel. The community also provides outings, guest meals, a library, a convenience store, a general store, and indoor common spaces for gatherings or quiet time. They prepare two home-cooked meals each day in a restaurant-style dining room, and residents can get meals delivered to their apartments if needed.

There are lots of practical details that can make daily life easier, like scheduled and complimentary transportation to appointments and shopping, garage parking, climate-controlled storage, a business office, wireless internet, and maintenance services. The community's pet policy says cats and dogs are allowed, though there are some restrictions, and the grounds have both indoor and outdoor pet spaces, courtyards, a paved patio, and safe walking paths.

SummerWood of Plymouth supports seniors' health with services like medication reminders, incontinence care, diabetic care, and on-site rehabilitative care. They have a responsive emergency system, an emergency pendant, and access to VA aid for veterans. The staff organize both in-house devotional activities and offsite trips to keep everyone connected and engaged. The community's building is located close to highways, shopping, restaurants, and a public library, so residents have easy access to neighborhood essentials.

While some details about the building type, certain interior features, and exact outdoor amenities aren't specified, the facility is known for its well-appointed common areas, wellness programs, and supportive environment. The place is smoke-free indoors, and there are legal protections for LGBTQ+ residents. SummerWood of Plymouth is not listed for sale or rent as an apartment, but it's considered part of an apartment community with a variety of rental options and offers rental terms and policies. You'll find support from staff and a range of care that aims to keep seniors comfortable, independent, and active for as long as possible.
