    Caring staff, but unsafe conditions

I had mixed experiences. I found caring, energetic rehab and activity staff, a homelike feel with fresh flowers and attentive therapists who helped my mom make strong progress, and some truly wonderful, professional people. However, chronic understaffing led to unresponsiveness, long delays for bathroom help, neglectful incidents (a fall, COVID/pneumonia that worsened a resident), poor meals, turnover and what looked like poor medical/rehab management and even questionable record-keeping. We transferred to another facility where care was excellent; I'm grateful for the good staff here but cannot fully recommend this place given the safety and staffing concerns.

About Stone County Rehabilitation & Nursing Center

Stone County Rehabilitation & Nursing Center sits in Wiggins, Mississippi, and does a good job caring for older adults who need different kinds of support as they age because it works as a Continuing Care Retirement Community, so people can stay in the same place even if their needs change, and that helps many feel settled. The place has nursing home care that meets basic standards, decent medical help on site, and enough staff to go around, and you'll see registered nurses working around the clock, along with a team of therapists for things like tracheostomy and respiratory care. If someone wants to live on their own but doesn't need daily help, the independent living side has private rooms with kitchenettes, cable TV, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi, as well as private bathrooms, which people like for comfort and privacy. Seniors who need help with things like bathing, getting dressed, or taking medicine can move into the assisted living part, where there's always a helping hand around and some activities to keep folks busy, while those with memory loss or dementia have a certified 20-bed Alzheimer's and Dementia Unit that's secured and supervised for safety.

There's a strong focus on rehabilitation, so people who are coming out of the hospital after surgery or illness, or who need help recovering from things like strokes or heart problems, get physical, occupational, and speech therapy, plus stuff like cardiac rehab, wound care, IV therapy, and special diets handled by the Dietary Director, Tina Louviere, CDM. The nursing team, with registered nurse Katy Conard in charge of infection control and Heath Beach guiding care plans, works with Medical Director Michael H. Albert, MD to keep everyone's care on track, while Cindy McDonald handles social services and Kelsi Vandervender, PTA, runs the therapy department, making sure people get therapy when they need it. The building has safety features like emergency alert systems, and there's Wi-Fi, phone service, furnished rooms, and easy access to outdoor areas and walking paths. Moving in is made easier with coordination support, and help with laundry and housekeeping means residents don't have to worry about chores.

For meals, there's a dining room with restaurant-style service led by a professional chef, plus options for folks with diabetes or allergies, and people can eat whenever they want thanks to all-day dining. The center also puts on activities, stuff like movie nights and music programs, so neighbors have chances to visit, and the business room, wellness spa, library, and game room offer extra places to go or things to do. The staff can help with dialysis transportation, bariatric care, BIPAP/CPAP therapy, ostomy care, wound care, and more, including support for veterans who need tracheostomy services. There's 24-hour care alongside scheduled activities, and for families who need a break, the center offers respite care.

Residents often form strong bonds, sharing stories and spending time together, since the community feels warm and inviting, and there's an effort to help everyone feel included. When families want to look around, tours are available so folks can see the place and meet the team. The staff is experienced, empathetic, and focused on making personalized care plans, whether someone comes for a short stay of rehab or lives there long-term.
