    Longtime resident, good, now unsafe

I've lived here 22 years. The owner is wonderful, meals are delicious, activities and communication are good, it's affordable, and some staff are caring and treat residents like family. Unfortunately it's gone downhill: restrictive, prison-like rules, many staff are rude or incompetent, I've seen snacks stolen, poor medication supervision, and on-site drug use and narcotics trading - I can't recommend it until management fixes these safety and staffing issues.

    About Colonial Residential Care

Colonial Residential Care Facility II, found at 1162 Cedar St in Bismarck, Missouri, stands as a senior care home providing assisted living and memory care for folks who want help with daily chores while still keeping their independence, and you know, the building holds up to 48 residents, all in a pleasant and home-like setting with furnished rooms that come with amenities such as cable TV, a telephone, internet, and even a kitchenette for those who like having little comforts close by. Caregivers here give support with bathing, dressing, medication, meals, and also help with laundry and housekeeping, and some staff focus on personal grooming with a community salon and barber services and all that, and there are group meals every day and activities-people enjoy movie nights, fitness classes, and there's a well-stocked library plus arts room, a beautiful garden out back, and even scenic walking paths for those who like being outside.

They're ready to help residents with memory care needs, including dementia and Alzheimer's, and there's a whole system for supervision with a 24-hour call service and emergency alert systems throughout the building for safety. No need to worry about getting around, either, as the place is wheelchair accessible and offers non-ambulatory care. Folks who come here get help moving in, and the staff work alongside seniors and their families so new residents get settled in with as little fuss as possible, and for those times when a person needs to see a doctor elsewhere, transportation is set up, so folks don't have to stress about appointments, and being close to hospitals and local shops makes things easier overall.

Meals are prepared by chefs and planners who take care to provide options for people with allergies or diabetes, making sure everyone eats well, and there's a dining room with all-day dining and restaurant-style service, which makes meals feel more like home. There are programs in place for physical, emotional, and social well-being, so residents can stay busy, and between the arts, crafts, and community events-some organized by staff, others by residents-there's usually something going on, plus outdoor spaces for sitting together or gardening if that's your thing.

The building is licensed for long-term residential care and provides both independent living and assisted options, but it's not certified by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, so you won't use Medicare here. Staff are always around to answer questions, there are guides about dealing with different illnesses or disabilities, and tours are available if someone wants to look the place over with a staff member who'll greet and show visitors around to see the rooms or amenities. Residents can expect regular help with day-to-day tasks, and the community encourages family feedback, so folks can check reviews and ratings to learn more before making decisions, and overall, Colonial Residential Care tries to offer a respectful, pleasant environment with skilled staff, a safe setting, and activities tailored to a wide range of needs and interests with a steady approach, not too fancy, just focused on making life a bit easier and more comfortable for older adults who need it.
