    Small clean home, caring staff

I placed my mom here because it's small, clean and comfortable with spacious rooms, home-cooked family meals three times a day, pleasant dining/Veranda areas and regular activities - the staff are caring and consistent (Nicole and Tammy are wonderful) and they handled Medicaid/VA and transportation easily. Residents seem happy and it's great being close to her sister and my daughter; the only drawback is the older building needs some maintenance and the carpeting is threadbare.

    About The Colonial Home

The Colonial Home sits in Doniphan, MO and offers different care services for older adults who need various levels of help, and you'll find that it's got options like hospice care, home health care that's Medicare-Certified, long-term skilled nursing, memory care, assisted living, adult day services, and non-medical home care, which means people can get care in ways that fit what they really need, and you see they've come up with their own names for certain programs and features, so it gives the place a little something special. They try to make the place feel homely with common spaces, indoor and outdoor areas for spending time together, gardens, patios, and a recreation room where people gather for things like game nights, story time, and even a resident musical group if you like music. There's a cooking club, a gardening group, a book discussion club, and a lot of activities that help folks meet each other and stay busy, plus you'll find arts and crafts spots, gym facilities, and rooms with TV and cable already set up for those who want to watch something or just relax a bit in a cool room.

They serve meals so residents don't need to worry about cooking, and they offer community dining or even a private dining room for special occasions, with guest access at mealtimes so family and friends can join when allowed. The Colonial Home has big and small studio apartments, some with handicap accessible showers or tubs, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi, so people can feel comfortable and stay connected. They let some pets come with residents, and they've got covered and uncovered parking for those who bring cars, plus they offer free transportation if you need to get out for errands or appointments.

People who need help with daily tasks like getting dressed, bathing, taking medicine, keeping up with insulin for diabetes, or getting around from beds to wheelchairs will find staff available day and night, and for those with memory challenges, there's care designed for Alzheimer's or dementia. Laundry, dry cleaning, and housekeeping get taken care of if you need them, and on-site you'll find a beautician and barber, so haircuts are easy to arrange. They try to keep life enjoyable with educational lectures, religious services both on and off-site, and fun things like offsite trips or group activities, always focusing on what the residents want to do and what best supports their independence and well-being.

For those who want more practical help, there's medication management, support with all kinds of incontinence care, and even advice about finances or Veterans benefits, so navigating the paperwork gets a little easier. There are short-term stays for folks who might just need a break or time to recover, and staff handle emergencies all hours. The Colonial Home is licensed by the state, and does quite a bit to treat everyone with respect and dignity. The staff uses their own terms for programs and care options, which helps make the place feel unique and personal for the folks living there. Amenities and care at The Colonial Home cover a lot of ground, helping people live as well as they can, whether they're simply needing a little daily support or more involved nursing or memory care.
