    Bed bugs, mice, neglectful management

I had a loved one at this facility and I would not recommend it. It's infested with bed bugs and mice, unsanitary, crowded and neglected by indifferent owners/management - oxygen support wasn't maintained and basic supplies (bed pads, proper towels, sanitizer) were missing. Staff service was inconsistent: female caregivers and the DON were amazing and often caring, but many male/front-line staff were slow, rude, unprofessional, with long waits, bad communication and management treating residents like inmates. There are some fond memories - homemade meals and a few genuinely caring staff - but overall it felt unsafe for elderly/disabled residents.

About Myers Nursing Home & Center

Myers Nursing Home & Center, also called Myers Nursing & Convalescent Center, sits at 2315 Walrond Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri, right in a car-dependent part of town near shops, restaurants, gas stations, and pharmacies, though it's got some public transit if folks need it, and the building itself holds 84 certified beds and usually has about 73 residents a day. This is a for-profit nursing and rehab community where seniors get round-the-clock nursing care, whether they need short-term help after a hospital stay or more long-term support with daily needs like bathing, dressing, taking medicine, or getting from bed to a chair, and there's always assistance with transfers for folks with mobility challenges and wheelchair-accessible spaces so no one's left out.

The staff includes friendly nurses and caregivers, with the nurse-to-resident ratio sitting around 1.58 nurse hours each day per resident, so someone's always checking in or helping out, and a 24-hour call system makes sure help is close at hand if something comes up. The building's kept clean by regular housekeeping, and residents' clothes get washed by in-house laundry services, and if folks need a little more, there's dry cleaning and family support, too. Rooms are simple but comfortable, often furnished with private bathrooms, cable TV, air conditioning, high-speed Wi-Fi, and even kitchenettes for those who want them, and every resident gets a telephone so staying in touch isn't hard.

Food here is prepared by trained chefs who focus on solid, nutritious meals made from quality ingredients that try to fit allergy or diabetic needs when folks have them, served in a restaurant-style dining room with all-day options, usually one or two meal sittings each day, and meals can be adjusted for dietary reasons if need be. Myers Nursing Home & Center's known for its memory care, offering specialized help for folks with dementia or Alzheimer's, and there are extra programs and activities designed to keep everyone as connected and engaged as possible, whether that's music, movie nights in a small theater, arts in a special room, group exercises in a fitness and wellness center, or just simple outdoor programs in peaceful gardens or along the walking paths.

The general tone around the place is described as happy and welcoming, with the administrator, Khaheem Coley, making sure that staff stay kind and supportive, and residents have a choice between community-sponsored activities, outings, a community game room, a library for reading, a community garden, and plenty of quiet spots to visit with neighbors or family. People tend to say the staff look out for each other and the folks living there, creating a steady environment without a lot of stress.

The place passes federal standards for infection control but has recorded 6 infection-related deficiencies and a total of 68 deficiencies in inspection reports kept by Medicare and Medicaid authorities, so while the staff keeps working on these issues, it's good to look over inspection details if you want to understand the latest standing. Myers Nursing Home & Center takes both Medicaid and Medicare for payment. The building offers on-site healthcare with general care and regular visits from physicians, along with rehabilitation for seniors coming out of the hospital, and personalized plans for wellness and activities.

There's help for folks who want to stay active through exercise or group activities, and there's always someone around to help with organizing moves and coordinating care, whether that means help with groceries, arranging transportation and parking, or making sure those with memory problems get the extra support they need. Even though not everything about Myers Nursing & Convalescent Center is spelled out online, families can use a free local advisor for more details if something's unclear.

This is a straightforward nursing and rehab home where the services center around care and safety, the food's prepared in-house, the rooms are set up for daily living, and the days are filled with social and wellness activities, with memory care and basic medical support all under one roof.
