    Beautiful facility but unsafe, understaffed

I'm conflicted: the facility is beautiful, bright, and conveniently next to the hospital, and many frontline aides (Heather, Brian, Pam and others) were kind, hardworking and truly caring. But chronic understaffing, poor/unresponsive management and a money-driven corporate attitude produced missed or delayed care (showers, meals, meds), safety and hygiene problems, theft and favoritism, and ignored complaints. Communication from administration was terrible and residents' rights felt restricted. Because of the management issues I can't confidently recommend it despite the excellent caregivers.

About The Estates of Perryville Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility

The Estates of Perryville Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility sits at 430 N West St in Perryville, Missouri, and people know it mainly as a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center, and while the building holds more than 120 beds and has private and semi-private suites, residents often bring their own personal things to make the rooms feel warmer. Folks will find a variety of care here, including skilled nursing, long-term care, independent and assisted living, as well as memory care for Alzheimer's disease, plus respite, home health, and hospice services, so there's different options depending on what a person might need down the line. The place takes both Medicaid and Medicare, and also accepts other insurance or private pay, and the skilled care center has Medicaid certification and a CMS rating that falls well below average in areas like staffing, health inspections, and overall, but the quality measures stand just slightly below average, which is important to know.

Staff at the Estates of Perryville include nurses, specialized social workers, optometrists, and podiatrists, and they provide around-the-clock nursing care, with a secured Geriatric Behavior Unit for folks who need extra help with behavioral needs. People can get physical, occupational, speech, and recreation therapy, and the list of services is long, so there's wound care, surgical wound and decubitus ulcer care, wound vac and electric stimulation, post-operative orthopedic rehab, stroke rehabilitation, pain management, and help with drains and IV lines, even things like dialysis transportation, cardiac and diabetic diets, and G-tube or J-tube maintenance for feeding. There's teaching offered for diabetes management and colostomy care, too, so it sounds like the staff tries to cover a lot of conditions. The building's got in-house diagnostic services like X-ray, EKG, ultrasound, and Doppler, and pharmacy services are 24 hours, which can help if a new medication's needed in a hurry. Laundry services, support for daily meals tailored to what doctors order, and organized activities keep folks busy, and efforts go into promoting individual wellness and personal growth through therapy and leisure.

There's a list of programs for staff education, such as Certified Nurse Assistant training and other professional courses, and the Estates of Perryville takes part in the Missouri Health Care Association, so it's plugged in to the state's industry for updates and advocacy. Folks who want or need memory care will find there's a dedicated unit for Alzheimer's treatment, and the Geriatric Behavior Management Program works to help residents with both medical and behavioral needs in a respectful way, carried out by specialized staff. Administration is under Devon Huff, and behind it all, the facility tries to offer a caring, respectful environment with care tailored to each person, even though no place is perfect. The main goal seems to be helping residents reach their own best level of health and comfort, with services designed around what each person needs.
