    Neglectful care, moved to safety

I had a mixed, mostly painful experience: at the original facility I saw chronic neglect, poor communication, staff mismanagement and corner-cutting (medication errors, Haldol despite an allergy, ignored UTI signs, improper catheter and transfer practices), unclean conditions (urine/feces on residents, strong odors), coerced DNR conversations, a reported patient death and allegations of staff misconduct - family was often not notified and transfers were chaotic during the closing. The new facility is cleaner, staff are caring and professional, meals are good and activities exist (though repetitive). Bottom line: I feared for safety at the first place and am relieved we were able to move to much better care.

    About Troy Manor

Troy Manor sits at 200 Thompson Dr in Troy, MO, and is what folks would call a medium-sized community since there are 20 beds, and you'll find skilled nursing care, rehabilitation with physical, occupational, and speech therapy, and services for folks who have dementia or Alzheimer's, plus there's assisted living and end-of-life palliative care, and the staff, who work under Ms. Janice Conover the Administrator, show compassion and try to make sure residents' lives feel meaningful and comfortable while still focusing on each person's preferences and needs. Rooms come in a few layouts like shared or companion style, semi-private spaces, and even studios, and the community gives residents a bit of everything for long-term or short-term nursing, aging in place, and some independent living if you just want social opportunities without needing much help but like not worrying about home upkeep. There's memory care programming designed to help keep people safe who may wander, and assisted living means you'll get support with things like bathing, getting dressed, and remembering to take your medicine-for those who need to, there's standby help when moving from bed to wheelchair, and the staff can check blood sugar though they can't give insulin shots, so residents with diabetes will need to be able to manage their own injections. There's no outdoor amenities or parking, and while pets aren't allowed, inside there's common areas for relaxing, along with an enclosed courtyard and a beauty salon for residents, and the place has group activities, though what those are isn't spelled out, and there's a focus on trips and outings which can help folks stay active. Nutritious meals come with the stay, which helps everyone keep up their strength, and the staff, who are awake 24 hours a day, can lend a hand during emergencies or just offer standby support if someone needs to shift from one spot to another. People 55 and older live here, and there's a real mix-some rely on independent living, some get assisted living, others need more advanced care either on a short or long-term basis, and residents can stay as their needs increase thanks to the levels of care and physician oversight, which helps them stay in a familiar place as things change. There's devotional activities both onsite and offsite if spiritual life is a priority for you, and the facility manages transportation with handicapped-accessible vans, which is good for getting to appointments or outings. Details like garage, parking, interior features, air conditioning, and utilities aren't available. Besides all that, Troy Manor doesn't have BBB accreditation, but it does include LGBTQ and source of income protections in its policies, offers rental options like townhomes, condos, single-family homes, and apartments in Troy, and still tries to meet people where they are in life, whether it's memory care needs, therapy after hospitalization, or just a friendly, supportive environment for the aging years.
