    Clean home-like facility, admin issues

I highly recommend this clean, home-like facility - the staff (Sheryl and the caring couple) are warm, go above and beyond, meals and activities are wonderful, and the grounds are beautiful and well-kept with a large yard for BBQs. That said, I witnessed administration problems - the administrator was rude and even yelled at a resident - rooms are small with shared baths, and it's not licensed for full Alzheimer's care, so it's best for mobile residents. Overall, I felt residents were loved and well cared for, but be aware of the admin/licensing limits.

    About Closer To Home

Closer To Home sits on 20 flat, irrigated acres in St. Ignatius, Montana, with cross-fencing, barns, sheds, and workshops dotted around for horse lovers or folks needing space for a ranch or big family setup, and you'll notice the views cover mountains, meadows, valleys, and roads with houses here and there, making it feel open and peaceful. The main building's all on one level and spreads to about 4,100 square feet, with a full finished basement, ranch and log home details, composition and metal roofs, and a strong poured concrete foundation, so you can tell they built it to last through long winters. Heating comes from electric, radiant, or wall furnaces, the place has its own well water, a private sewer, and they've got an owned propane tank for cooking or backup.

The assisted living operation has a state license and provides care for up to 16 residents in 10 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms, with emergency-pull cords in each room and bath, which means safety's pretty well thought out, and you'll find all the usual things like grab bars, accessible hallways and doors, ramps, and wide paths for wheelchairs or walkers. There's a garage for two cars, fireplaces, vaulted ceilings, central vacuum, and walk-in closets, plus all rooms are furnished for people coming in. Utility-wise, they've got cable, electricity, and propane, so most needs are covered.

Daily support includes medication management, help with bathing, transfers, dressing, and general supervision around the clock, and the staff are trained to work with people dealing with dementia and Alzheimer's. For meals, there's a commercial kitchen, restaurant-style dining, scheduled meals, and they cater to special diets for allergies and diabetes, which matters a lot to the residents and their families. Laundry and housekeeping, even dry cleaning, are part of the routine, and you'll find a barber or salon room for haircuts without leaving home. There's a community lounge, library, telephone in every room, walking paths, garden spots, and plenty of organized activities from movie nights to gardening, whether set up by the staff or sometimes led by folks living there, so boredom's easy to escape.

The facility runs as an LLC and has a principal called Ms. Sheryl Hitchcock, and while they do have a presence online, most people come out to look around in person, since that's how families get a feel for day-to-day life. There's a system in place for emergencies and moving in is coordinated to ease people's minds. They also serve people with mobility limits, offer memory care, and provide short- or long-term stays as needed. The business holds a BBB rating of A+, operates with proper licensing, and draws people who want personalized care in a home-like setting with some ranch touches and options for privacy or community, depending on your mood that day.
