    Beautiful facility, inconsistent memory care

I'm grateful for this clean, bright community - the staff are compassionate, family-focused and responsive, the facility is beautiful, and the food and activities are excellent, which gave me real peace of mind during COVID. My mom was well cared for much of the time, but memory care felt inconsistent: frequent staffing changes, poor follow-up, and I found the new memory-care director inexperienced and overly controlling, which left me uneasy. Overall I'd recommend this place for many needs, but caution families whose loved ones require steady, advanced memory care or more nutritionally dense meals.

About Cedarhurst Senior Living of La Vista

Cedarhurst Senior Living of La Vista, also called The Meriwether, sits at 97th & Giles in La Vista, Nebraska, and offers many options for seniors, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and more, so people can find a place that fits their changing needs as they grow older, and it's one of those places where you can get both simple non-medical help and more advanced medical care under one roof if you start needing more support down the line. The community does have apartments designed for carefree living or assisted living, and there's also secure memory care for people with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia, and they've arranged things so residents can get help with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, and medication if they need it, and for people who just want a social, active place to live without much help, that's available too.

Meals get planned and served by staff three times daily, and special diets or preferences will be respected, so even if you've got food restrictions, the dining staff takes care, and people seem to appreciate that the dining areas are nice and welcoming, with the building and layout being described by visitors and families as very nice too. They run a program called Pair to Prepare™ for new move-ins-that's where a family member can stay with a resident for free the first few days to help everyone settle in, and there's also a Life Enrichment Program, which looks at what each person likes or wants to do and sets up daily activities suited to those interests, which can make the days more pleasant and keep folks involved.

The community's well-known for promising a 60-day money-back guarantee, called The Cedarhurst Promise™, which means if someone's not happy in the first couple of months, they can get a full rent refund, and lots of people mention that as giving peace of mind when making such a big move. There are resources to explain different levels of care, benefits, and funding options like veteran's benefits and Social Security to help families figure out how to pay for things, and a TRUEcost Calculator tool helps people plan the cost of living there. The support team works to personalize care, even helping with specific needs like hearing aids, and the staff have earned good reviews from residents and families for being friendly, helpful, and creating a warm atmosphere, even if sometimes attention to specific needs could be a bit more consistent.

They also have several options for people who need long-term support, with skilled care and continuing care if needs increase, and there's hospice support as well. For caregivers and providers, Cedarhurst offers informational resources and a broad support network, which can help families understand the process and what's involved with senior living. Prospective residents can view a photo gallery, schedule tours, or talk with a Senior Living Advisor to get questions answered and see if it's a fit, with everything from meal plans to social activities displayed for families to see. Assistant Executive Director Emma Koenig leads the team, and the policy of supporting residents' personal needs seems to be more than just words, according to people who've spent time there.

All in all, Cedarhurst Senior Living of La Vista provides housing, care, and activities that try to make residents feel supported, valued, and comfortable, and while there's no one way to do senior living that fits every person, this community seems to offer a number of options so people can try to find what works for them.
