    Caring staff pleasant small community

I chose Saunders House and overall I'm glad I did - the staff are loving, attentive, and know residents by name, the place is very clean, meals and activities are welcoming, and the care felt like family which gave me peace of mind. It's a small, rural community with nice rooms and a pleasant atmosphere, though low occupancy, distance from home, some reports of unprofessional/gossipy staff, and perceived high cost are worth checking out before you commit.

    About Saunders House

Saunders House sits at 1313 N Hackberry St in Wahoo, Nebraska, and its grounds have been well-kept and licensed since 1984, with an emphasis on making senior living comfortable and straightforward, so if you're thinking about a place that combines friendly care and the basics you need, this is the kind of place you find a mix of Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Respite Care services. Saunders House comes with state-licensed staff available day and night who help with daily activities like bathing, dressing, and moving around, and there's support for diabetic care, incontinence, medication management, non-ambulatory care, and memory care for those with Alzheimer's or dementia, provided under the watch of Oxford Senior Living, who runs things with a focus on caring for people in a way that's genuine and respectful while giving the help people want and need.

The building has studio apartments, some single room units, and rooms with kitchenettes, most with views of the pretty open country, and residents can see wildlife now and then, and if you or your loved one has a pet, those are allowed as well, within some limits, so it feels a bit more like home. There's a patio by the gardens, and you'll find outdoor seating, a patio for gathering, and country views where people can visit, do a bit of gardening or just sit outside on a nice day. There are spots inside for social time, like a library, recreation room, arts and crafts area, a salon for haircuts on Thursdays and Fridays, and there's a beauty shop too along with an area for club meetings such as a cooking club, book discussion club, and gardening group, and it's never quiet for long because there's a resident musical group and regular game nights.

Meals get served three times each day, cooked with good ingredients, and if someone wants, there are also vegan meals, choices for those watching their sugar, and evening snack carts, with guest meals if visitors stop by. There's room service for those who'd rather eat in their room, and all the rooms get cleaned for residents, along with laundry and linen service, and if anybody needs help with things like dry cleaning or homecare services, that's handled in-house, so there's less running around for the residents. Every week, residents can join Friday afternoon outings, and there are plenty of daily activities both on and off the campus, with free rides through Busy Wheels or Saunders County Transportation if someone wants to see something off-site. Saunders House also offers free high-speed WiFi for staying connected, and there's a call system for emergencies, so help's always close by.

Staff arrange devotional services both on the premises and elsewhere, making it easier for folks to keep up with their spiritual needs, plus hospice and companion care options are available if anyone comes to need them. Companion care and personal aides help residents stay as independent as they want, and the building makes things easier for folks who need help getting around because it's handicap friendly. Skilled nursing and physical therapists are here, and people can pick from different floor plans to suit their needs, choosing the place that feels most right for them. Saunders House uses check and insurance payments, requires an entry fee, and offers on-site resident parking, and everyone living here gets utilities with some limits, in a place that values safety and secure living.

Life at Saunders House keeps a steady, simple rhythm, with days organized around meals, clubs, gardening, creative activities, and opportunities to share stories, recipes, or just a quiet afternoon. The people here value being part of a community where service, kindness, and meaningful connections matter, but they don't go overboard with perks or flash, just reliable care in a setting that's been doing this kind of work for decades.
