    Exceptionally caring clean home-like community

I moved my mom here and I'm so relieved - the staff are exceptionally caring and attentive, treating residents like family with real one-on-one care. The facility is clean, beautiful and home-like, with excellent home-cooked/gourmet meals three times a day, regular social activities, and an open, non-locked setting that supports independence and mental-health needs. Communication and operations are responsive, pricing is predictable, and I have peace of mind - I highly recommend it.

    About The Society House

The Society House sits in the Bel Air section of Livingston, New Jersey, about 15 miles from Manhattan, and has a Georgian-style design with stone front siding, a spacious yard, deck, covered patio, and large, bright windows, so it feels open and welcoming, and the inside is modern, light-filled, and designed for comfort. The building stands four stories high with both private and semi-private rooms, and the setting only allows 15 residents at a time, so it does keep things quiet and more personalized, making it really feel like a single-family home, but with the amenities of a luxury boutique residence. There are live-in caregivers and trained assistants who help with personal care, laundry, and medication management, and there's always staff around, including a registered nurse, so residents get what they need day and night.

The rent at The Society House is all-inclusive, so services like housekeeping, laundry, meals from a full-time gourmet chef, and use of the gym or exercise room next to the steam shower bathroom come without extra fees, and the required entry fee is $3,000. Common areas include a beauty salon where stylists visit, a game room for different activities, a dedicated theater with reclining chairs and bean bags for children, a cozy media room, and community dining space with guest meals, birthday celebrations with meals and desserts of the resident's choice, and menus tailored for different tastes and dietary needs including diabetes and low salt. The executive chef uses freshly grown herbs and vegetables from the on-site organic garden in warmer months, so residents can enjoy fresh, seasonal meals right from the property.

Residents get to join a variety of programs like arts, crafts, music, horticulture, and physical and occupational therapy, plus religious services and veterans' assistance are available. The community celebrates cultural and holiday traditions, and offers social, educational, and entertaining activities so residents can stay connected and engaged, and help is always there with activities of daily living like bathing, dressing, or medication. The Society House also has specialty care for seniors living with dementia or Parkinson's disease, with careful attention and care plans for each person, and staff strives for what's called their 360° Personal CareGiving Commitment, meaning they make sure each resident feels well-cared-for in every way.

Outside, there are gardens and walking paths, but although pets always seem welcome outside, the rules say they can't live at the house, so animal visits are nice but not permanent. The place has cable TV in common areas, Wi-Fi in private rooms, and helps with social media so residents can stay in touch with family. Payment is flexible since they accept checks, credit cards, and can help with home sale assistance if needed, and they take Medicare too, so there are a few options for covering fees. The license number for The Society House is 0710-0004, and feedback from families and residents describes an atmosphere that's friendly and welcoming, with a focus on support and comfort instead of pressure or hype, and the care team aims to create a safe, relaxing home for people wanting to live as independently as possible with just the right amount of help.
