ALC, also known as Arbors at New Castle Nursing, sits out in the farmlands of Pennsville, New Jersey, and offers a cozy, homey place for seniors, whether they need assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, or just a little extra help now and then, and you'll find that the community's built to help residents feel safe while keeping as much independence as possible, so folks who live here can get support with bathing, dressing, medications, and meals, all in private suites with big walk-in bathrooms and kitchenettes, and for folks who like to join in, there are daily social activities, resident-organized events, exercise and wellness programs, and big common areas like gardens, dining rooms, small libraries, and outdoor spaces where neighbors can just sit and pass the time together. The care team's always around, all hours of the day and night, ready to provide assistance, do wellness checks, or help with chronic conditions, and there's always medication management, transportation to appointments, and even counseling, therapy, and wound care available for those who need it, so there's pretty steady support without making residents feel like they've lost their independence altogether. For seniors with Alzheimer's or other memory problems, ALC's memory care keeps everyone safe with secure spaces, round-the-clock supervision, memory-enhancing activities, and specialized programs, and families can expect a real focus on each resident's needs. Meals come home-style three times a day, with restaurant-style dining options for special diets, and staff handle housekeeping, laundry, and linen changes, too, which means the basics are always covered. Folks who don't need as much help can live more independently here, but can still get support if they want it, because the facility offers a whole range of options, from independent apartments to full nursing care, so seniors can stay in the same community as their needs change, which they call aging in place, and the environment stays active, friendly, and neighborly, making it easier to get the right balance of help and personal space, whether that means skilled nursing, help with everyday activities, social programs, or memory care. WiFi, phone, and cable are set up in each unit, and staff coordinate closely with health care providers, while the community remains on the smaller side, so residents don't feel lost in the crowd, and each person receives care matched to their unique requirements, whether it's for just a short stay for respite care or a longer-term living arrangement with as much support as needed.
Spotless facility, caring staff, pricey
I'm generally very pleased - the building is spotless and home-like, the staff are kind, attentive and often go above and beyond, meals are good, and there are lots of activities and outings. The layout, dining area and courtyard are lovely and staff have even helped with Medicare/Social Security paperwork. My caveats: it's expensive, management/communication can be unprofessional and slow, some services (wheelchair transport, laundry) have been spotty, and it's not suitable for advanced memory-care needs. Overall I'd recommend for assisted living with those reservations.
