    Warm caregivers, clean, administration concerns

I found the caregivers warm and family-like - attentive, friendly, and genuinely helpful. The building is clean, bright, one-floor, homey with nice gardens and good meals; medication management is handled and day-to-day care felt solid. Activities are limited and residents need more stimulation (more bingo/road trips would help). My biggest concern was administration: I witnessed unprofessional behavior, poor communication, yelling/interruption and lapses in responsiveness and safety (falls, mistakes, smell/cleanliness issues). Lovely, well-kept place with great staff, but because of the admin and engagement problems I would hesitate to move my mom here.

    About Canterbury Village

Canterbury Village has provided care for seniors since 1921 and stands as a not-for-profit retirement community with services like assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, independent living, hospice, and respite care, so folks here can get help with different needs as they age. Located in a single-story building, Canterbury Village offers studio, semi-private, and deluxe private rooms, with private baths, closets, and options for bringing personal furniture or using furnished rooms; many rooms come with safety features and emergency call systems to help residents feel secure. The place has dedicated areas, like the Canterbury Village Memory Care unit and therapy rooms, all built with easy wheelchair access and wide halls for better movement. Meals are prepared daily by a chef, served in inviting dining rooms, and there's always someone on staff to help with special dietary needs, plus snacks are around for when people want them. Nurses and caregivers are on site all day and night, and nurses are on call anytime, providing help with medication, bathing, dressing, transfers, and health checks, with support for aging in place, Alzheimer's, and non-ambulatory care.

You'll find beauty and barber services, podiatry, physical therapy, dental visits, an on-site doctor or nurse, pharmacy, room service, housekeeping, laundry (even for linens and dry cleaning), and transportation both in and around the community so residents don't have to worry about missing appointments or activities. Canterbury Village helps families with financial advice, VA benefits assistance, and easy payment systems. The grounds include lovely gardens, outdoor patios, walking paths, a sunroom, a courtyard, and places for outdoor activities, all secured for safety. Pet lovers can bring some pets, and there's parking for both residents and guests. Every person has access to Wi-Fi, cable TV, telephones, kitchenettes, and air conditioning. For faith needs, there's a chapel and devotional services. Fitness is supported through gym spaces, a wellness room, fitness programs, and scheduled activities like Wii bowling, movie nights, music, and even resident musical groups.

Residents enjoy a range of social options each day, such as arts and crafts in the arts room, reading in the well-stocked library, lectures and educational programs, story times and game nights, movie theater events, and business room access. There's always something going on, with both community-sponsored activities and events led by residents themselves. Special programs for short-term stays or respite care are available with flexible rates. Medical services are broad and accessible, from physical therapy and rehab to hospice and regular check-ups. Canterbury Village is gender-specific, offering wings for either men or women, and provides privacy when needed. Security is a high priority, so there are emergency alert systems and a backup generator to keep things running during outages. The staff has a reputation for being kind, friendly, and helpful, always making sure help is there when needed. Canterbury Village's age and experience show through a warm, supportive environment that focuses on community and companionship, while on-site services and amenities make daily life easier and more enjoyable for everyone.
