Long Island Living Center sits in the Wave Crest neighborhood and provides assisted living, memory care for Alzheimer's, skilled nursing, and independent living choices, so folks get support that fits what they need, and what you see when you walk in is this magnificent lobby with comfortable lounges and public spots people gather in, with the whole place feeling pretty plush and homelike, not cold or hospital-like, and there's a baby grand piano, a big-screen TV, a billiards table, and this colorful aquarium in the main common area where people can just relax with others or on their own time. Residents have options for rooms, including studios, semi-private, and private units, that are decorated with contemporary furnishings against calming blue walls, and there's a shaded outdoor patio with trees and shrubs, plus gardens people can stroll or just sit a while, since the neighborhood's got a Walk Score® of 87 if somebody enjoys a walk outside. Seniors get meals in a community dining room, with kosher, low-sodium, and special diets offered, and there's help with bathing, dressing, grooming, and medications, including organizing appointments and monitoring medicine schedules, while medical care covers a wide range, like internal medicine, psychiatry, dermatology, eye care, ear-nose-throat, dental, skilled nursing, physical therapy, occupational and speech therapy, even outpatient dialysis and inhalation treatments when someone needs that. Housekeeping takes care of cleaning and laundry-including dry cleaning and fresh linens-so folks don't have to worry about chores, and there's transportation and parking around if residents need to get out for appointments or activities. A busy social calendar fills the days with exercise classes, bingo, musical performances, picnics, pizza night, table games, and field trips, and there's advice and planning services for seniors and families looking for guidance. Everyone gets English language support, dietary supervision, and options for independent living, residential care, assisted living, or memory care, depending on what fits. The staff aims to make days rewarding and pleasant, offering company and a helping hand so residents can live as comfortably as possible.
Clean facility, caring staff, oversight
I found the place clean, hotel-like and well run - friendly, attentive aides, good meals, lots of activities, helpful front desk/tour staff, laundry and medication management all in order. However, management and at least one nurse manager can be rude and unresponsive, and there are reported/alleged incidents of serious neglect and abuse (missed meals, a delayed discovery of a resident's death, and claims a resident was hit). Overall helpful and caring staff, but verify oversight and visit repeatedly before entrusting a loved one.
