    Caring staff, active community, pricey

I live here and overall love it - the staff (Joan, Meg and team) are outstanding and responsive, the activities are nonstop (pool/aquaerobics, yoga, theater, art, games, van trips), and the spacious, pet-friendly 2-bed apartments with a great continental breakfast exceeded my expectations. The building is newer, well kept and resort-like, but it's pricey and some finishes feel cheap. One major downside: the main elevator has been out for over two months after lightning struck the building, which has been a real inconvenience. I'd still recommend it for the caring staff and active community.

    About Summit at Mill Hill

Summit at Mill Hill sits in Guilderland, New York, just a short drive from Albany, and if you're looking for a place that takes care of the chores and gives you time for yourself, this new community might suit you, especially since it opened in December 2019 and has the look and feel of a modern, well-kept place. Residents get to pick between one- and two-bedroom apartments that come with private bathrooms, open kitchens, washers, dryers, and some even have balconies or patios, plus you'll find high-speed internet, cable TV, air conditioning, and all the usual appliances for an easy, independent life. The building's wheelchair accessible and there's a 24-hour call system, so people can feel safe if they ever need help, whether it's day or night, and for those who want extra support, the assisted living services provide help with things like taking medicine, getting dressed, or even bathing, so folks can keep as much independence as possible while still being part of an active community.

There's no big upfront entrance fee or long-term lease, but they do charge a $2,500 non-refundable community fee when you move in, and what stands out here are all the ways to stay busy and connected, whether that's catching a movie in the theater with those big recliner seats, playing pickleball outside, swimming in the pool or relaxing in the hot tub and sauna, or even spending some quiet time in the woodworking shop or out in the community garden where you can grow your own flowers and vegetables. There's a full day spa and on-site beautician services to help residents feel their best, and for people who like to socialize, the social tavern and game rooms are usually busy spots, whether you want to play cards, listen to music, or just talk with neighbors. Folks with pets will find amenities just for them too, and anyone who likes walking or sitting outside can enjoy the landscaped gardens, walking paths, and outdoor patios with chairs, tables, umbrellas, and raised garden beds.

Housekeeping, laundry, move-in help, and even concierge services are included, and private transportation makes it easier to get to appointments or run errands, while the staff, including the facility director, tries to keep everything running smoothly. There's a full schedule of social, educational, and entertainment activities, and people can also join offsite trips planned by the community, which gives everyone chances to be involved and make new friends. Dining happens in a community dining room with restaurant-style meals, and special diets like diabetes or allergies can be accommodated, while breakfast spreads often include fresh fruit, yogurt, and pastries for a more relaxed start to the day. The Summit at Mill Hill also features a chapel for worship and reflection, a library, arts and crafts rooms, a fitness area, garage parking, and a gallery where local artists show their work, and family involvement and resident-run activities play a big part in making everyone feel at home.
